5.0 out of 5 stars A bargain if you click on the "Used or New" to the right., January 10, 2005
This review is from: Altec Lansing IM2 IM2 Portable Speakers for MP3 Portable Enhanced Audio For All MP3 (Electronics)
This is quite the deal. Very good sound in a small package, and very handy, and looks purty. Great maker (Altec). Works great with my Ipaq, and my laptop at work. The bass actually isn't bad at all for no subwoof, and volume fills a small room handily. It's so portable. This purchase has made my life Nirvana. Well...

In conclusion, an extremely fine deal at the amount I paid, which I cannot obviously expose to you, dear consumer, but again, buy new at 4/10ths of the "regular" price, as I did. That's a hint.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, March 8, 2005
This review is from: Altec Lansing IM2 IM2 Portable Speakers for MP3 Portable Enhanced Audio For All MP3 (Electronics)
The speakers themselves measure about 3.5 inches tall and 2.5 inches wide each.

The whole unit only stands (when unfolded) about 5 inches tall. If your mp3 player doesn't fit between the speakers, you can set it on the platform behind the speakers, which is nice... which I guess would also accomodate a portable cd player, etc.

The thing i was most impressed by is the sound quality. This thing can get annoyingly loud indoors... which is good! With some bass heavy songs, you might need to back it off just a touch (see the opening 20 seconds of Daft Punk - Around the World, or Underworld - River of Bass), but for most music, you can crank it up!

Everything about these speakers is very impressive, and reeks of clever design ideas... except one flaw. This is why I only gave it 4 stars. Even with batteries installed (4xAA), the speaker doesn't remember your volume setting when you turn it off. The next time you turn it on, you have to turn the volume back up again.

Other than that I'm completely and totally impressed! I'm taking it on vacation with me, and I can't wait!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good speakers for your mp3 player!, March 22, 2005
This review is from: Altec Lansing IM2 IM2 Portable Speakers for MP3 Portable Enhanced Audio For All MP3 (Electronics)
Altec Lansing is known for providing good quality PC speakers for an affordable price. Now they have a hit on their hands in this portable speaker system for iPod or other mp3 player. The speakers are small, easy to carry, nice looking and most importantly sound very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great speakers, if you can get it at the right price..., June 24, 2005
This review is from: Altec Lansing IM2 IM2 Portable Speakers for MP3 Portable Enhanced Audio For All MP3 (Electronics)
The sound is amazingly good for speakers of this size, and the construction is solid. It can replace a cheap pair of computer desktop speakers (without subwoofer) anytime. It even comes with an AC adapter. The manufacturer's suggested price however was way too high. I got this discontinued model at 60% off, so I suggest you wait for the big discount when the current model is discontinued. If you can't wait, and your budget is limited, you might want to consider other models like the Creative TravelSound 200, which being a smaller unit, might has somewhat weaker bass.

Got these for my MP3 player, excellent sound for the money. Fold up into a nice tiny bundle. Simply requires a headphone jack, so it would work well with any PC or portable player.

4.0 out of 5 stars good speakers for the price, March 30, 2005

Sound quality is very good for the size.

I have yet to test out the claim of 24 hours conitunous use on 4 AA battery.

one annoyance is that the base in the middle (between the two speaker) where u put your mp3 player/ipod do not have a no slippery surface. so you player will easily slipp off.
