5.0 out of 5 stars M602 Replaced the IM7
Went to Sharper Image to get either a Bose or a Altec IM7 but once I got there they no longer had the IM7. 1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this item!
I bought one of these units, and worked wonderfully for about a month. Then, the sound would cut in and out like the power was being switched on and off.
I replaced it with another unit, which also worked great for about a month, and then it had the same problem. This is, obviously, a design flaw, as I see other posts here describing the same problem.

Went to Sharper Image to get either a Bose or a Altec IM7 but once I got there they no longer had the IM7. The "Product Specialist: at the store said he returned more than he sold because the IM7 Door that you put the ipod in kept breaking off. My options were the M602 or the Bose. Now here is my Dilema...

I have the original ipod with no dock, and a video ipod, my sons have a mini and nano, and my wife has a shuffle. The Bose system will not play either the original or shuffle as it does not have a AV input jack. This means the Bose cannot play anything other than the Ipod Video, nano, and mini that I have.

Sound both are comparable. I wanted it for my kitchen and both sounded fine. The big difference was the bass that came from the M602. The Bose base was definately not as full.

So I saved a hundred bucks and got the M602 and have no regrets.

One great feature, it has a dock, that you can place any other MP3 player on and comes with a matching white cord for the AV input jack so you can play cd players too.

Bose lost my money mainly because of their inflexibility when they design their equipment as I had gift cards and would'nt have had to shell out any dough. Plus I love their Quietcomfort headphones. That is what you get for trying to shove your vision to the masses without thinking what the masses need.

Altec...You did a great job and listened. And it sounds great too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound! Great economy, October 16, 2007
This review is from: Altec Lansing M602 Speaker System for iPod (White) (Electronics)
Orderded for my teenage daughter. This item is a nice size, not to big not too small. Sleek package. Sound is excellent! Perhaps not high-high end, but as good a sound as one would experience with headphones. Speakers have nifty blue LEDs in the speaker grill that light when adjusting volume to show level. I gave this unit 4 stars based on its high performance in relation to its price, which would have been worthy of 5 if it had a remote. Obviously, a newer version, which costs more, offers that.

Daughter has a Gen2 Nano which docks with no added adaptor. The ipod stands forward of the speakers a little bit.

This unit charges the ipod.

I recommend this item for someone wanting satisfactory to better than satisfactory sound in an attractively designed package.

The sound, when the unit works well, is okay, not great. I bought it because it was $100 cheaper than the Bose system (which friends have had their own prolems with).
I would not buy this unit: it is a poor design that is plagued with problems.

3.0 out of 5 stars Distorted Bass -, September 3, 2007
This review is from: Altec Lansing M602 Speaker System for iPod (White) (Electronics)
I can't decide whether to keep this or not. It was a gift, and when there's no bass distortion, it's great: but the thing is, I'm getting distortion at lower volumes than expected on ACOUSTIC recordings, and that makes no sense at all to me. Would love to read other comments, but it looks like I am the first.

4.0 out of 5 stars Altec Lansing speaker for ipod, March 8, 2007

Sounds good, good bass and treble I save 100 bucks compare with the bose. The only issue is that if you have one of the old ipods (20GB), it will vibrate because the ipod gets in contact with the speaker.

2.0 out of 5 stars Problems with this product, February 27, 2007

Great sounding little gadget!

However, mine started a power-interrupt click after about a week of ownership. The clicking sound as far as I can tell is in fact a power issue or a short of some sort. It sounds as a loud click when nothing is connected. With the ipod connected it interrupts the music for a split second every second and a half, and if you let it go it speeds up - happens more frequently as the unit warms up. I don't know if it's an issue with the unit or the adapter, but I will be returning mine this week. Judging from the reviews at Amazon, I won't be replacing it with another of the same product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great when it worked!, May 23, 2009
This review is from: Altec Lansing M602 Speaker System for iPod (White) (Electronics)
It has great sound when it works properly, but after a year or so, mine got the problematic clicking noise as well. I've had other altec lansing speakers in the past and have been impressed and was initially impressed by this unit as well. I guess all I can do now is warn other people not to buy it, unless you want to use it as an expensive ipod charger...
I wish they would replace it with a different unit!! DO NOT BUY THIS ONE!

I use it for both my computer and my iPod. Compact size, plenty loud, and good sound quality. Bought new over a year ago and still working great

1.0 out of 5 stars problem with clicking noise..., November 29, 2008
This review is from: Altec Lansing M602 Speaker System for iPod (White) (Electronics)
We're returning our second set today. We got the first in April 2008 and it lasted until July before the clicking noise ruined the listening experience. It's a loud popping rhythmic noise like a metronome. The second set worked for a few months flawlessly until it too started popping. If they could remove the noise, these would be 5 stars. When they work, they sound awesome and fill the room with a full-rich sound. Very good bass quality.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Altec Lansing M602 Speaker System for iPod (White) (Electronics)
I bought this and completely eliminated my old stereo system. I've owned mine for almost 2 years and have no complaints about the unit quality of the sound quality. My only issue is with the particular way you have to sequence the plug-in so that it will work. It's not often that I move the unit to another location, but when I do I have to figure it all out again. Minor problem though. I would definitely recommend this product and buy other Altec Lansing products.
