Wish I shopped around a bit more for these. But since I was earlier shopping Shure and Klipsch earbuds, $30 didn't seem too bad, and did I mention they're wood?
I don't know if the wood makes any difference, but I'm happy with their sound and looks. A few reviewers mention a lack of treble and I have a theory. The cheapy ear buds that come with Ipods are OVERLY trebly. And compared to those, YES these don't have as much treble. But IMO thats a good thing. Ipod earbuds fatigue my ears with their harsh sound. I can finally listen to my Ipod for hours with these. Same theory goes with the bass. Cheap earbuds lack any bass, so these with a little positioning, you can get very good bass response without becoming muddy. But at first listen it may SEEM like too much bass. Anyways, I'm sure there are a lot better earbuds out there, but for $15 - $20 these make a fine upgrade from the cheapys.

Vintage Headphones,

These headphones remind me of the Hi-Fi setups in the 70s and 80s. Wood baby! The photos do no justice. The wood grain is totally visible in person. Even the wire is brown, really cool look.
The medium in-ear buds fit me perfectly, it feels like I'm in a custom theatre room when I wear them. Good isolation, great bass, these things smoke my Smoking Buds, no contest. Didn't really monitor the burn-in period, but they sound better now than when I first got them. Only complaint is the wire isn't the fabric type that doesn't tangle or catch easily. When the rubber of the wire catches (collar, zipper, etc) you can hear the vibrations, but that's also due to the great sound isolation. Take the good with the bad. Great headphones at a great price. Don't buy them because I want them all!!!

Just one thing,
This review is from: Altec Lansing MHP136 Muzx Series In Ear Headphone with wood finish (Electronics)
these were probaboly the best set of headphones i have ever baught, the one time i spent more the $5 for a set too, for that price it paid off $14 (from Amazon cheapest place i found them the manufactures sells them for like $28) i really cant complain at all. they have the best sound quality i have heard from headphones that were not abnormaly big either. the wood headset is the best idea ever and they cancled outside noise pefectly. my only complaint is that they broke within a week but thats because im a Barber and i use them for work so i had one headset in my ear and the other one hanging so when i bent downt to pick something it just so happend to get snaged on something and pulled a little bit so the right side went out within that first week of having them. Very dissapointing. there was some disturbance when it rubbed against the zipper of my barber jacket or the cord of my clippers but should be expeceted with most headphone

Needed new earphones to listen to my mp3 player. Saw a review of the best ones and not suprisingly many were priced at 100.00 plus. Then I saw these and checked them out. Good reviews and I was intrigued by the wood construction. Internet search found the best price (Under 10.00) at Amazon.com. Package arrived quickly and I was ready to go.
At first I had to get used to the snugness of the in ear style, but it was worth it. The sound was amazing. I rotate playing bass and lead guitar at church and with these headphones I realized how much I was missing, especially the bass response. I could hear everything. My one concern is the construction. There is no stress relief where the cord and jack connect, so within a few days the rubber sheath started seperating from the jack and the copper wire is exposed. I am not hard on them. I plug in, put my player in its belt holster (make sure the cord is not pulled tight or kinked) and off I go. Still it only took a few days to show seperation. GREAT sounding headphones. GREAT Price. Maybe best used in a stationary setting, sitting at desk etc. Really should have bought a couple pair

Just put them in,

As of late I have become somewhat of an earbud snob. I have never used the "standard apple earbuds" because as we all know, they sound horrid. I have used the original JVC marshmellow earbuds, the new JVC marshmellow earbuds which I kept 2 days, a pair of Koss KDX-100, Ultimate Ear Super Fi 4's, and now these for a whole 10 minutes.
My first impression is the sound is very nice; it is very rich with great high's & mid's, and good but not overpowering low's. The sound quality on the Muzx is on par with the Super Fi 4's, but with more bass, while much lighter (aluminum vs. wood) and therefore more comfortable. One immediate caveat I have noticed is that anytime the cord hits something the vibrations reverberate though the earbuds more than normal, I do wish they have opted for cloth cords both for vibration reduction and durability. The cord guage is one guage thicker than most low- mid tier earbuds, but not as thick as many of the higher end earbuds. The medium size silicone tips fit quite well, but noise isolation is fair as they are pretty thin; I switched them for the thicker silicone tips from the Super Fi 4's, as I like to zone out at work and ignore the chatter, and that helped isolate more and the increased isolation increased the bass a little, as normal. I suppose I can be a bit rough on my earbuds as I wear them to workout via crossfit; the Koss KDX-100 survived for a week and the Super-Fi's lasted about 6 mo's but the original JVC's lasted for 2 years. I mention this as quite a number of the previous reviews state poor build quality in these Muzx, therefore I will be hanging onto my Wal-mart receipt in expectation of these not lasting too long. The Super Fi 4's are actually the same earbud as the Altec Lansing Backbeat's, which further erode's my confidence in the build quality of the Muzx as the rubber cord cover broke at both earbud joints and the plug joint, on the Super Fi 4's. Overall, great sound quality, especially at $20. These earbuds will not be great for hip-hop, rap, or heavy dub, however they have great sound for more high/mid oriented music. Currently I am listening to a Glitch Mob mix - the bass hits are good, but not quite hits, however the highs and mids are rocking. I look forward to listening to more music on these, but again am wary of the build quality after reading reviews.

I read most of the reviews and complaints after picking up a pair at Zombiemart and was expecting them to quit on me sooner than later. I picked them up because I've been happy with the brand over the years when it comes to computer speakers. 4 months later, no problems whatsoever. I have compared them back to back with some sennheisers ( similar price range) and sonys and jvcs and none of em can touch these for full warm sound quality and still maintain clarity. Snare drums usually sound thin like smacking a piece of paper. They sound full but still with snap with these. I'd buy them again. The volume is much higher in these than any other headphones I have but do not sacrifice sound quality. Maybe I beat the lemon curse with them but can't beat the sound quality.

Broke after a few days,
This review is from: Altec Lansing MHP136 Muzx Series In Ear Headphone with wood finish (Electronics)
I bought these from Wal-Mart, so I don't know if Wal-Mart had a bad batch of earbuds or what, but these broke after fairly low-impact use. One of the earbuds (I think it was the right one) went out after literally 2-3 days. So, I exchanged them for another pair at another store, and I had the exact same problem. It's really a shame, because they do sound nice, but you're much better off spending your money on something that will actually last.

Good for a few months, maybe...,
This review is from: Altec Lansing MHP136 Muzx Series In Ear Headphone with wood finish (Electronics)
Purchased these for travelling and bedroom use 6 months ago. The sound was not very good, but they were inexpensive. The ear inserts did not block much sound, but they were inexpensive. The wire covering coming out of the mini-jack cover is destroyed after light to medium use for 6 months. That is unacceptable.

Great sounding headphones. I was happy I made the purchase for the first 3 days. Then the right channel went out. None of the cords were loose, no visible dents in the wood finish suggesting it had been smacked or internally damaged somehow... Nothing. It just gave out. The fact that these are still being sold to people is astonishing and I am steering clear of all Altec Lansing products from now on. This is horrible.

Me and earbuds for my iPods have been a constant struggle over the past several years. After all, the combination of portability, reliability, functionality, and quality has always been a constant struggle, especially when keeping within a certain price range. After all, why spend $50 when the maximum lifespan for the best quality earbuds is at MOST, 1 year, if not six months depending on how much you use it. Over time, this gets expensive, so I try to keep my earbud purchases under $30, which will usually last me 2-5 months, again depending on frequency of use.
Enter, the Muzx series of earbuds I happened upon one day. With a great price, and a stylish look, I decided to try them out. And upon listening to the buds, their sound quality was incredible for the price-range. Sure, not as surrounding as normal headphones, but they did a great job at what they did. That is until a week later. The left earbud died, meaning that no matter what I did, there was no audio. No fraying, not over-exerting use, nothing out of the ordinary, it just stopped working. I returned them to my local store, and bought the same model hoping I just got a defect. This time, the sound quality was still great, and it was still stylish, but the left earbud gave way after 2 weeks. No matter what device I used, and no matter which way I moved the chord, there was no sound coming out of the left earbud. And this was after I was extra careful with this pair. So I returned them, and exchanged it for the same model, because the sound quality was just so good. This time, they lasted 5 days. Again, I was even more careful than the last time, and I tried moving it every which way, and I tried different devices, and I looked for any visible damage. But there was nothing. It was then I came to the conclusion that while it sounded great, what the developers put into sound, they took out of quality and durability to a ridiculous degree. Therefore, while they look great, and they sound great, unless you want to spend once a week in the return line, it would be best to just skip these, a waste of opportunity and time. |
