Altec Lansing speakers were made with grain-fed hearty beef in the late 90's, and still outperform most of today's cheaply made speakers that can barely be heard! I found a great complete set of these from the original owner. I may have stepped back an entire decade in sound technology from my Bose 2's, but couldn't be more pleased with my decision!
Two 3" Drivers per Satellite- PWR 5 WATTS RMS per Driver, 6" Dual Voice Coil Subwoofer- PWR 20 WATTS (150Hz crossover, 70dB). These feature USB connectivity, which only means having the use of a GUI control feature on your screen. The original driver and GUI software are available online for most WIN platforms. This allows for precise 10 scale level and volume adjustments like a basic equalizer. Driver and software are optional for the ACS495. Adjustments for low / medium / high levels can be done manually on the right speaker with the volume control and 3 buttons. Switch between STEREO and PRO LOGIC by holding the "Center" button for 3 seconds, then releasing. Also features a MUTE function. A decent sound card allows for even more precise tuning. The two 3.5mm green input jacks behind the sub allow for multiple systems (PC, MP3 Player, MIC) to be attached, or just be in stand alone mode. Speakers automatically turn off when an audio signal is not present. The two satellites separate a full 8 feet with the sub in the middle on the floor. Impressively harmonic sound and deep, rich bass engulfs the room and the desk vibrates enough to cause ripples in my coffee. Excellent sound quality, even w/o adjustments.
Older yellowish computer appearance. No Headphone Jack. Speakers' age, but still bumping strong and should something happen, it may just be the 1 AMP 250V "Slow Blow" fuse in need of replacement.
