Excellent Disposable Earphones,
By
This review is from: Altec Lansing UHP106 Backbeat Series In Ear Headphone with Ulitmate Ears technology (Electronics)
I am very hard on earphones, and have given up buying expensive models from various manufacturers because they inevitably fail within a few weeks of use. While the elite vendors like Shure have excellent warranty and return policies, it's just not worth the hassle. After going through three (free) replacements of E3C's, I got tired of dealing with it. I still recommend Shure's for indoor use.I run on the beach in the blazing sun in Florida, slathered in sunscreen and sweating like a horse. This wreaks havoc on vinyl wire sheathing, leading to cracks (in the case of Shure) and degradation to sticky mess (in the case of Sony). On the other hand, really cheap IEMs like the Koss and SkullCandy just sound horrible, even for my relatively undemanding ears listening to podcasts and audiobooks. I was delighted when I picked these up at Best Buy on a whim. They fit, have good sound and best of all, a cloth tangle-free cord. The cord is by far the best feature. However, my current pair is about to go in the trash because the plug is shorted and I only get sound in one ear. The first pair had the same problem. As I say - disposable. Since they are about half the price here on Amazon, I'll probably just order a couple at a time and treat them like razor blades. If anybody can recommend some DURABLE in-ear monitors for a reasonable price, I'm all ears.

I've had the spectrum of in ear headphones. I've had $100 Shure, and $12 Skullcandy. The shure were great, but a pain to keep in your ears. The Skullcandy were great but a pain to keep in your ears...The skullcandy lasted a few months and the shure would have lasted a long time if I hadn't left them on the plane in a seatback pocket. These sound good and seem to stay in my ears relatively well. One of the things I initially dismissed but I find helpful is the cloth covered cable - it really is tangle free. I use these for my Mp3 player while on the plane. I travel every week. They let me keep the volume at about half what I would need to put it on for regular style earbuds.

Cloth Cables are Noisy,

I have a major complaint about these earbuds is that the cloth cover cord make an amazing amount of noise every time I shift or move. When I am sitting stationary and listening to my iPod -- the sound quality is good. As advertised, the cloth cords are tangle-free.I bought these because they were inexpensive. So, I don't feel that much of a loss. I recommend finding a set of earbuds with non-cloth cords.

Good sound, poor construction,
This review is from: Altec Lansing UHP106 Backbeat Series In Ear Headphone with Ulitmate Ears technology (Electronics)
I bought these earphones because I was curious to see what kind of earphones a speaker manufacturer would make. The sound quality on them are really good considering that I only paid $16 for them, but the construction is really poor. I had them less than a week and the plug separated. I had my iPod in my jacket pocket and when I went to take it out to plug into my computer, the iPod had the plug pin in it, but the cord and the other half of the plug had separated from the pin. I've never had that happen with a pair of headphones before. I'm taking them back to the place where I bought them for my money back.

Altec refused to replace earbuds which broke in less than 1 year,
This review is from: Altec Lansing UHP106 Backbeat Series In Ear Headphone with Ulitmate Ears technology (Electronics)
I received these Altec earbuds as a gift last year. The metal plug separated from the cord when I was taking it out of my laptop. Altc refused to honor the two year guarantee since I didn't have the receipt, because they were a gift. They would not accept my proposal that the style and model number served as proof of approximate time of purchase.

Just-ok sound quality, horrible noise from cables,

I wish I had read the reviews before I bought them. It is true about the cable noise. The cables drape down around my collar, and the slightest movement sends a loud roaring sound to my ears. Staying perfectly still: it's alright. All I have to do is turn my head slightly and it comes back. Whenever the cables rub against my neck: noise. When they rub against each other, noise. They come in contact with my shirt collar, noise. I shift my hair and my pony tail touches the cables: noise. I reach to un-twist the cables (which love to knot themselves) and yet more noise. In my opinion they should have never let a product like this with such a design flaw out of the door. These are $25-class headphones, not ten-buck cheapies. I should have kept the receipt.

I really liked the sound quality of these earbuds. I loved the way they fit into my small ears and the noise-cancelling technology really worked in my noisy gym. The first pair were fabulous, till I dropped them and one earbud stopped working. The second set arrived with one earbud dead; fortunately Amazon was really good about replacing them. The third had slightly diminished volume but they were still good for about 3 months. But then one earbud stopped sending sound into my ear while I was working out. I'm done with this brand. Lousy construction,
This review is from: Altec Lansing UHP106 Backbeat Series In Ear Headphone with Ulitmate Ears technology (Electronics)
As others have said, the construction on these is incredibly poor. So poor that these are honestly not worth even the low price. The plug is basically just a poorly soldered connection with glorified shrink tubing over it. I know this because clearly such a weak set-up is going to fall apart almost immediately, which it did after just two days of owning these. The sound quality was fine for those two days, but nothing amazing, again, not even for the price.Waste of money.

Not for me,

I bought these for when I workout and they didn't serve its purpose of staying in the ear. I tried the different size ear inserts but none would stay in my ear. Also once in your ear you could hear yourself breath which is disturbing when trying to hear the music. So I returned these.
