Save your money,
This review is from: Altec Lansing UHP301 Snugfit Earbuds w/ Silicone Ear Pads (Electronics)
I read AE's review but bought these earbuds anyway. I should have followed his advice! None of the cushions fit so I ended up taking them off and using the earbud cores alone.
I wanted a really good set of headphones that I could use with my cell phone and still be able to jog using my phone as an MP3 player. My phone has a 2.5 mm jack. I called Altec-Lansing twice to confirm the size of their jack because it is not listed anywhere on their website or specs. Although I was twice told the jack was 2.5 mm, it turned out to be 3.2 mm so I had to shell out another $10 at Radio Shack for an adapter. The volume control is useless but I did not expect an amplified headset for the price. The UHP301 is nothing special. It does nothing more than any ordinary $6 earbud headset. By the way, for those that care, it is made in China.

Terrible sound, Terrible fit.,

Fit : Maybe my ears just dont like these "snugfit" designs but they refuse to stay in my, or anyone else's ears. They come with 3 soft silicon earpieces but each are equally worthless. Take off the silicon earpieces and they turn into normal earbuds, They have another silicon ring around the speaker which cushins them somewhat but I find standard earbuds uncomfortable after a short period of time so no go with that either.
Sound : Very bright sounding earbuds, very little to no low end extension but thats a common on sub 100 dollar ear buds. Music is fairly clear but the harshness of the high notes doesn't lend towards long listening times. The passive noise reducing factor doesnt matter much since earbuds generally already do passive noise canceling since you're sticking something IN your ear. Volume : The volume control is useless. The 3/4's of the volume slider are too quiet to be usefull on any device. The difference in volume between the last 1/4 slide is dramatic, you go from not being able to hear a thing, to blasting your eardrums out. To get the most clarity you have to turn it all the way up, then pump the volume down at your audio device. Making the volume knob worthless. I woulduve just preferred a mute button, because thats all its good for. Build : This is the only place the earbuds get praise from me. The blue silicon does look good, the wire is wrapped in a tight gunmetal techflex like mesh that is robust and very attractive. I don't fear breaking the cord. The length is good enough for pocket\hip based players, the included carrying case i simple but effective, has a nice feel to it and isnt bulky. Overall I love the looks of them, but looks aren't what they're supposed to be based on. Conclusion : Look elsewhere if you have fitment problems with earbuds. If you like bright hi's in your music then go ahead and buy them, but for it's current price of $50 you're paying for aesthetics more than function.

None of the 3 silicone ear pieces would fit in my ears. Never had a similar problem with any other earphones I have owned. Even the smallest size is close to 3/4 of an inch in diameter and they are hard and not very flexible. You need huge ear canals to use these things and sound quality is poor when they don't fit properly.Would not recommend these to anyone unless they can comfortably fit a medium size olive in their ears!

I love the ear gels that come with these earbuds. They fit over the new Apple earbuds with remote and mic, making them stable and comfortable in my ears.
Yes, I bought these earbuds for parts. Sadly, that's all they're good for. If you have an imperfect fit or if you've inserted the earbuds improperly, they sound terrible. A good fit and proper insertion makes the sound quality slightly worse than average for earbuds at the list price point. On a positive note, they look great. The fabric-wrapped cord resists tangles (though it's too long for my liking), and the buds have a sturdy construction quality. But, really, if they don't sound good, it doesn't mater how pretty or comfortable they are, does it?

Upon the arrival of my new headphones i was excited. Beautiful packaging and the presentation of the look of the headphones lead me to believe i was in for a treat. Wrong, disapointment from the start. Rubber insert very unconfortable and the sound is so trashy sounding i wonder how can altec lansing put there name on this product. Air plane headphones have more quality sound than these. No exageration at all. If u read this review please do not wast ur hard earned money on the headphones. Very dissapointing!!

I bought the UHP301 after having the UHP101 head set. I liked the UHP101 but the foam wore out pretty fast and i ended up losing them. after about a month with subpar headphones I saved enough for another decent headphones. As for fit on the UHP301 I think the main problem is insertion to the ear. It took me a while before I got use to inserting them the right way but as soon as you get them the right way they were great. It's funny but on my left ear it seems to fit perfectly with the small but on the right ear i use a medium. Remember that your ears may be different from one another too. I have recommended this product to family and friends and even my picky friend ended up loving them. sound quality while inserted properly is great so i would disagree about the quality being the same as airline phones. Mainly because that's what i have been using before getting the UHP301. A good way to try inserting them is to fit the silicon ear pads by themselves. Understandably I would understand if this product is not meant for most people mainly because it does take some effort on using them. For $40 most people would expected to to fit perfectly on the first go. Personally i did. but trying out my dad's $100 head phones they didn't fit me well it's really not that bad haha.

They don't fit in the ear with the provided ear pads. The sound is tinny. The earbuds provided on airplanes have the same sound quality.

I have tried numerous earbuds and until trying this unit, I did not like any of them ..... I could not find one set that would stay in my ears until I found these .... and I say "Bravo!" For the price, this unit works very well for me .... Tis true, we all have different sized ears, and the medium size worked for me ...

Worth it.,
This review is from: Altec Lansing UHP301 Snugfit Earbuds w/ Silicone Ear Pads (Electronics)
These are more comfortable (for me) than regular earbuds and better fit and better sound than most sound-isolating buds i have tried. ( I'll admit it seems hard to believe everyone's ear cavity will be the same shape, so perhaps that was a problem for other reviewers... )
I've used the smallest size of the three sizes of silicone pads they included. They fit well and are secure enough for a vigorous workout. No pressure points so i can wear them for a long time, unlike regular buds. I did not have to keep re-adjusting them into my ears, unlike regular buds. The sound is better than the Skullcandy Full Metal earbuds i had previously used and is comparable to headphones for range and isolation. The cord seems very good ( instead of plastic, it's woven/fabric sheathed)... The carry pouch is convenient for preventing damage when tossed in my bag, and is a nice bonus you don't always get with an earbud. The in-line volume control is sketchy. Sound quality is great at the max anywhere else is compromised... I have had better V controls on headphones, but it's definitely better than not having it at all. This is the weak link in this design. Placement of the V control is reasonable ( at waist level, or about 40cm from the buds) compared to some others that put it too close or too far from the buds. For $20CAD, I'm satisfied. |
