I am the queen of cheap speakers. I always tend to get the cheesiest, sleaziest speakers. I decided that my new Mac Mini deserved something a *little* better, but I'm still cheap.
These speakers are not, I'm sure, high-end, but they are a far cry from the cheapie speakers I usually have. The sound quality is wonderful -- I'm hearing subtle low tones that the cheap speakers didn't pick up, and everthing's smooth and clear. They're easy to set up and very attractive. They are bigger than my Mac Mini (but hey--what isn't?) but don't take up too much space. Very nice indeed, for the price!

I bought these for a work environment because the dopey looking tan speakers I had did not match my sleek little dell and 20 inch flat panel monitor. In terms of looks they fit in really well and mirror the look of the flat panel display nicely. Keep in mind that the speakers are about 10.5 inches high and 4 wide so they are not what I'd call compact.
Important to note about these speakers is that they are powered and are not designed to work with a separate subwoofer. I was a little disappointed about that but I attribute it to my own carelessness. However, the story has a happy ending because I'm fine with the sound as it is. In a work environment it is pretty rare that i had a chance to kick up the sound enough to even activate the subwoofer. At low to low medium sound, these speakers really shine. However, don't expect big deep sound out of these speakers as they are only 5 watts of power total (so only 2.5 per speaker). Also, it is important to play with the sound output of Windows, the program you are using (winamp etc) as well as the knob on the speakers. People suffering with the annoying hiss so common in cheaper speakers can get a lot of relief by taking some time fiddling with these three adjustments. What works for me is low on the Windows output, medium on the program output and low on the speaker knob output.

Excellent Value,

I just replaced my Harman Kardon computer speakers with this pair. Although my old HKs were 12 watts while these are only 5, these ALs actually sound much better. Although they will never be mistaken for quality speakers (I use a pair of $2,500 Polk towers in my music room), they are perfectly adequate as far as computer speakers go. Excellent value.

Just what I wanted!!,

These are great speakers! I was looking for a set of cheaper costing but higher quality speakers, and these are it! I live in a town home, and can't have speakers with a lot of bass. So I wanted to find a set that would give great sound, have acceptable bass, but not carry much farther than my computer room. You can't hear the bass very well as you get father from them, but if you're just at your computer they are great! And this coming from an avid Techno fan!

For MDP`s these speakers have a well rounded response, and a tone control is a plus, previously I was useing CA(Cyber Acoustics)2.1,14watts RMS, and to be honest I will never drag around that 3rd (sub) speaker again, the Altecs (...) for a 2 speaker setup, and excell way past the CA`s for watching DVD`s that have the voice tracks washed out by the sub and the lack of watts to the satelites, even though I was happy with the CA`s, threes a crowd,my two new best buddies are called Altec, more compact, easier setup/breakdown and better all-round sound quality, especialy when your on the move.

These speakers are great, they are small and match my computer color scheme of black and silver great, the only thing that would make these nice would be a kicking subwoofer, trying to find one that would work great with these speakers for cheap.

Adequate, but JBL Duet are much better,

The VS2120 is a respectable 5-watt speaker: the sound is clear and balanced, and the speakers can produce medium volume in a small room. However, for a few dollars more, the 12-watt JBL Duet speakers produce a much bigger, fuller sound.

These speakers worked very well for the first two years I had them. For their price, and for not having a subwoofer, they produce a really nice sound from computer audio. I even plugged them into my MP3 player and portable CD player occasionally. However, recently, the right speaker pops and crackles, and the only way to get it to clearly play audio is to tweak the volume *ever* so slightly. Even after it plays clearly for a minute or so, often it begins crackling again and I have to readjust. Extremely bothersome.

Great speakers for bedroom,

I was looking for a pair of speakers to hook up to my iPod for the bedroom; I didn't want anything that took up extra space (ie. subwoofer) or had an extra power brick (these don't, power is built into one of the speakers).
While these might not be as adequate for loud listening environments, they do more than enough to fill a 12' x 15' bedroom with acceptably clear highs and not too muddy lows (I'm using them hooked up through the line output of the iPod dock). Great deal for the price!

These days of 2.1, 5.1, 7.1 and who-knows-what-else-point-one surround speakers it's a little tedious just getting a set of regular stereo speakers that simply offer good quality left and right audio.
This is what I wanted, and having had them a year I can say I would still buy them. They are an inconspicuous addition to the bookshelf above my PC and offer very good sound for the price. By sheer luck, the cool blue power indicator also complemented my PC which sports a clear panel and blue interior lighting. I've had other speakers for the same cost that were a little tinny or staticy on the higher volumes and by contrast, these have performed well. |
