Nice little, good-sounding speakers, December 7, 2004
This review is from: Altec Lansing VS2120W 5-Watt 2.0 Speaker System (White) (Personal Computers)
I just hooked up the Altec Lansing 2120W 2.0 Speaker System to my Gateway computer and am currently hearing a 1938 Benny Goodman piece better than I've ever heard it before. Nice, sweet sound, enough bass to keep me happy, and a clarity that my cheap-o speakers that came with the computer didn't have. I also played a few subtle classical piano pieces by Handel over the speakers and the sound was clear and lovely. Up to now, I couldn't bear to listen to classical music on my computer. Now I can, and with great enjoyment. I accessed my favorite classical radio station from Denver, and heard a Mozart string quartet sound just fine.
The sound is not overpowering--remember it's five-watts, but it's fine for computer listening to classical music and jazz. Game players will want more boomy bass and rock lovers will probably hate the speakers. But if you are in the market for two nice-sounding speakers, these may be the ones for you.
Easy to hook up. Volume and bass-treble control included. On-and-off knob that is a bit awkward, but perfectly manageable with practice. Headphone jack (I can't wait to try my expensive headset.)They look nice, are sturdy, and I'm very happy with them.

Good speakers for the price, December 30, 2005
This review is from: Altec Lansing VS2120W 5-Watt 2.0 Speaker System (White) (Personal Computers)
If you are looking for basic speakers to attach to your computer, these are good ones. They have adjustable base and treble and are pleasing to the eye. Also, they have some power.

They Buzz, May 2, 2005
This review is from: Altec Lansing VS2120W 5-Watt 2.0 Speaker System (White) (Personal Computers)
Everything is great about these speakers, except they have one fatal problem... they buzz. The speakers periodically emit a buzzing sound. This even happens when they are turned OFF, if you can believe it. I called Altec Lansing and they informed me that a) they are well-aware of this problem; b) it is "normal;" and c) this is to be expected with their "less expensive models."
This problem is incredibly annoying and I am getting rid of the speakers. If you want to buy a pair, email me and I'll send you mine for free if I still have them.
Do yourself a favor and get a different product.
