4.0 out of 5 stars Great Speakers for the price

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice sound up to mid ranges but too much interference
This is a very affordable, attractive pair of speakers that I bought for my new Dell. They aren't as loud as my old Altec Lansing's, which were actually THX certified but went with the old PC. However, the middle range sounds are very clear and crisp and the bass is more than can be expected in this price range.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Speakers for the price, April 20, 2004
This review is from: Altec Lansing VS2121 2.1 Computer Speaker System (3-Speaker, Black & Silver) (Personal Computers)
I bought these speakers recently for my Dell PC. The power and clarity of sound is awesome. I like to listen my music loud and these provide ample loudness. The reason for not giving 5 stars is because there is some static in the speakers when the cellphone rings or when I switch on/off the other's room lights.
I have plugged it into a surge protector and kept the wires away from other electrical equipment, but still some disturbance persists. But it is not a big problem, because it only happens when the cellphone rings near the speakers.
These are definitely a great buy.

Pros:
1. Awesome sound. Good clarity and bass
2. Sleek looks
3. Goes perfect with Dell Flat LCD monitors. Even the silver matches with the Flat Panel's silver stand. The speakers are pretty might
4. Great buy for the price.

Cons:
1. Some static. But if you keep your cellphone far away, it is minimal

5.0 out of 5 stars Small studio like's 'em, July 28, 2004
This review is from: Altec Lansing VS2121 2.1 Computer Speaker System (3-Speaker, Black & Silver) (Personal Computers)
I needed to replace some PC speakers and took a chance on how these would sound in my small home studio. It is one thing to mix through the headphones, but another just sit back and listen to speakers afterwards.

Nice quality sound for $50! I do not need to crank the volumn, but occassionaly you need to. Handles well for what I need them. More than appropriate for mp3's in an apartment. Good studio playback. They just simply sound good... Listening to them now ;)

The real problem is the interference I get. I think it's from my neighbor's TV. Anyway, what sounds like a TV station comes through the left satellite very faintly. Which means I have to turn my volume up higher to make sure I hear only my music. It's not ideal so I'm probably going to take them back.

However, if I didn't get interference they would probably be a delightful set of speakers for most computers. I'm going to cough up the $150 and get a 2.1 set of Klipsch instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love these speakers!, April 29, 2006
This review is from: Altec Lansing VS2121 2.1 Computer Speaker System (3-Speaker, Black & Silver) (Personal Computers)
I was thinking about buying a small stereo for my dorm room but decided to get these speakers for my computer instead. The sound is AMAZING!! Very powerful speakers and nice crisp, rich sound. I am so glad that I bought these instead of a stereo, much cheaper and sound better than any stereo systems I looked at.

I have never seen any interference with them and I use my wireless laptop and cell phone near them all the time.

I wanted a inexpensive three piece for work. These fit the ticket. The High end is very detailed. The low end is a bit too mid bass heavy, but if you eq the bass, they sound very good. I have the best 2.1 system money can buy and I spent $300 for those. I spent $40 for these. To compare, the Klipsch are a 10. These are a seven.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific for the price, April 16, 2006
This review is from: Altec Lansing VS2121 2.1 Computer Speaker System (3-Speaker, Black & Silver) (Personal Computers)
I don't understand why so many people are complaining about these. I was passing my cell and cordless phones all around them and heard only minimal interference when the phone was 3 inches away. I'm sorry, but these are excellent speakers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound BUT - Avoid in Apartment or Close Quarter Setting, November 25, 2005
This review is from: Altec Lansing VS2121 2.1 Computer Speaker System (3-Speaker, Black & Silver) (Personal Computers)
The Altec Lansing speakers arrived with a system that I had custom ordered from a great online company. I have to admit, that I was very dedicated in researching every aspect and part of my new system. Except.. unfortunatly, for the speakers.

The Altec Lansing speakers have great sound, and when there is no interference it comes through crisp. Playing games or watching movies can be a real treat with these speakers. On the downside, these speakers *constantly* pick-up interference. Cell phones, a wireless hookup, infact just about any other form of electronics seems to be able to trigger loud pops and a very loud hum from the speaker. This is made more difficult for me since I live in an apartment setting and am constantly exposed to the wandering and random electronics of our neighbors.

We have our system in the system in our bedroom and have been woken up by the subwoofer humming randomly. Not pleasant. The subwoofer has gone days without making a sound before, but when it does, you'll be wishing you bought something else. I urge you to keep looking, there has to be a better option out there somewhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Speakers for a Home Office Set - Up, January 2, 2005
This review is from: Altec Lansing VS2121 2.1 Computer Speaker System (3-Speaker, Black & Silver) (Personal Computers)
Got these speakers as a Christmas present from my awesome boyfriend and I love them! I am running them with my destop PC in my home office. Office is pretty small space, approx 10 x 12.
The speakers have a great clear sound and the subwoofer provides enough bass to fill out the lower end. I am very impressed at the quality of sound given the price and size. Boyfriend is professional musician and studio owner and is also impressed with these. Would be a five star review except at max volume sound can be slightly distorted.

I bought this speaker system to use with my iPod while on vacations and business trips. Believe it or not this system, speakers and subwoofer, can be packed in a medium sized travel bag with a shoulder strap and will fit into an airplane overhead baggage compartment. Suprisingly it is lightweight. Set up properly in a hotel room, the sound is incredible, more than one could ask for from an economical system as this. I used this system during a recent vacation in Vegas and it performed beyond my expectations. There is a problem with background hiss and radio crosstalk which can be greatly reduced by repositioning the cables connecting the speakers and subwoofer. Because of that, I can't rate this system 5 stars. But if you're looking for a cheap way to blast your tunes while on vacation or a business trip without headphones or being weighed down, you should consider the VS-2121's.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad Interference, December 1, 2009

I agree with many of the reviews of cell phones interfering with the speakers. I have had both a RAZR and now myTouch from T-Mobile and the phone being within 5 feet of the speakers causes interference, totally unacceptable in my opinion. Other than that, the speakers work well and sound great, but I would not get these again.
