These speakers are small, and so they are designed to fit very small spaces and work as computer speakers for basic, everyday use. Right? Yeah, I think if you want something greater for extreme gaming or booming bass then you need to look elsewhere. These are pretty much bottom of the line Altec Lansing, and for the purpose they were designed for, they work great. They do have good bass and respond well to sound you put through them for a small room or deskspace atmosphere. No, they wont fill a room with astounding vibrations and blow you away, but the quality of sound for a small desk space is very nice. They will get distorted at higher volumes, but if you have a small deskspace, how often are you really going to blast your music? I have been impressed with Altec Lansing for their products, and because these speakers work well for the reason they were made, I give them 4 solid starts. Not 5 because they aren't the BEST speakers out there, but they deserve 4.

These speakers aren't great but they also don't suck. I replaced a pair of really sucky speakers with these and they do exactly what I need them to. The volume is loud enough to fill an office sized room without distortion. The bass is a bit low and I had to turn up the tone nob but most people like deep bass so I'm probably alone in upping the tone (they definitely don't sound tinny). I paid $10 less than they are listed for and think that $30 is a tad bit too much. As long as they don't die within a year they're worth $20.

These speakers in my opinion are Decent for basic computing. I would not recommend for serious music listening, even though it plays music ok. The range of the sound produced is very limited.

I expected more quality from Altec but I guess you get what you pay for.

In all, these are OK for general basic use and to replace the cheap factory speakers that came with your PC.

These speakers are absolute JUNK~~~ While sounding no better than a couple of 2 inch speakers, which is exactly what you get, they worked for all of 4 weeks before the built-in amplifier failed and only one speaker worked. In desperation I took the speakers apart and found that there are not two speakers in each; the units have a small speaker and a passive radiator to give the visual illusion of two speakers in each unit. Save you money and look to something a lot less expensive to fill your needs. It is too bad that one of the most respected names in speakers until 1975 is now used by a maker of trash toys.

I'm very pleased with the speakers. Good quality sound for such a compact inexpensive setup. I also like that it uses a standard power plug instead of a transformer. Excellent choice for a small space. The controls are easy to use. Power is by push button, instead of knob to fiddle with.

These speakers are pretty good considering it only cost me $20 at office depot with coupon. C'mon people, those who expect this 2 1/2 inch speakers and 2 passive radiators ( yes, it does say on the box they are PASSIVE READ THE BOX BEFORE YOU BASH THIS SYSTEM ) to sound like home theater speakers, get real. It does a great job! I'm more of a Home Theater nut than computer person so i am picky about sound. for that guy that expects BIG sound, buy a sub with it or buy BIGGER SPEAKERS! These speakers are meant only to amplify and improve the sound of laptop and desktop computers. Anyway, for the price it's a great 2 speaker and powered at that too. Now maybe if Boston Acoustics or Tivoli would produce these types of speakers, well, that's a different story but it is about Altec Lansing and i think they're still great for the price.

I paid $30 for these speakers, expecting to get a $30 pair of speakers. As far as that goes, I can't complain. The amplifier doesn't whine, the sound is clear (at least at low-medium volumes), and they don't take up a lot of desk space. I passed up more expensive speakers, and I don't regret it.

If you are looking for a basic speaker more like an upgrade from the original factory speakers this is it.I been looking for a speaker for my Dell XP, nothing fancy but something that I can enjoy,listening to cd's, while surfing the web. These will do the job. The speakers even got a little bass to them. I was really surprise,I brought these at Staples for 19.99 with free shipping. I ordered them on Saturday and was at my door step Monday. I am very happy with them, they suite my needs. Prior I had brought a pair of IMicro multi media Hi-Fi Stereo System Speakers Model #IMD168B,please dont waste your money they are half the size of these speakers and they really do suck and they run about the same price. I love these speakers they are basic and just what I wanted also if you want something basic buy these, but if your needs are more I would stay with this brand but you are going to spend more money.

I have a set of these hooked up to my TV & they are awesome. Clear, full, beautiful sound, & very nice volume for their size & wattage. Though I should mention my TV has an equalizer & 3D surround sound built into the user interface. Which really makes the best of these speakers. I'd lost my stereo receiver & box speakers before getting these...& I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality. Like another reviewer, I also play the TV with the speakers' base turned all the way down & the tone all the way up. Mostly because my TV's equalizer setting already includes enough base. Since these use a line-in cable instead of the old red & white audio cables, I am ordering an extra set to hook up to a boom box with crummy speakers.

There is no external power brick, just a normal plug. The power supply is built into the bottom of the right speaker. One draw back is the 2 speakers are permanently corded together. I like jacks & cords that detach. Also, their center of gravity is too high, so that if you accidentally bump one, it may try to topple. That said, they sound very nice.

These come with an extended 2 year warranty, if you fill out Altec's survey.

Highly recommended, so long as you're not looking for high wattage speakers. Before buying speakers, always determine your desired wattage output & impedance rating.

I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination but I know what I like and these speakers sound great to me when when watching on line music videos and the sound is even better when watching dvd movies on my computer. And they pack a punch when I want the music loud! I love the mp3 option that you don't always find on lower end computer speakers.
