Fantastic. Great Sound.,
This review is from: Altec Lansing inMotion Plus Speaker Dock for iPod (White) (Electronics)
I saw this in a department store and decided I had to have it. I ended up ordering it over the web and saved some money. This is incredibly simple to work. Plug the cord into the unit. Plug the cord into an outlet. Plug your iPod into the unit and turn it on. The sound quality is amazing. The Maxxbass system gives a clear and rich sound. Usually with units this small the sound comes out rather tinny but that's not the case here. And don't be afraid to crank up the volume either. When you plug the unit it to an outlet, it will charge your iPod while you're listening. I think it charges the battery faster then on my computer at home. But you can also use 4 AA batteries and play the unit that way. However it won't chage the iPod when using batteries for power. On the back are additional jacks for a headphone, auxiliary outlet if you want to play another type of a device and a place to connect it to your computer. This is a first rate unit that can be used anywhere and produces great and full sound.

WOW! I was looking for a compact portable speaker setup for my iPod for travel and the office. I freely admit I'm hooked on good quality sound - my listening room at home is cluttered with Mark Levinson, Bryston, Audio Research, Wilson WATT/Puppies, etc. I love good quality sound. I was looking for a "reasonable" portable listening experience for when I didn't want to use earphones. This cute little gadget just blew me away. Bass is amazingly full and tight for such little speakers. Norah Jones just purrs. Wynton Marsalis' horn has that blatty brassiness I love. Don't get me wrong - this would never be a primary system. But for what it's designed for, WOW! 4 AA batteries and an iPod and for 1 lb 10 oz including batteries and iPod, you've got a great traveling system. Give it a try.

This unit really has as impressive sound quality. Although I didn't have to chance to compare it side by side with other options, its price range is somewhat unique (under $100).It's very portable too, once you close the box it's not larger than a medium sized book. I have a few suggestions, if i may: - The vendor should provide a 'cap' or 'cover' for the iPod connector. When the ipod is not connected, it can get dusted. - The volume control should be a slider, since we cannot see the actual volume level. Or maybe a LED indicator should show it. - We cannot 'tilt' the angle of the speakers because the connector is fixed in the base. Maybe it should 'basculate' a litte bit. - There should be a 'belt' fastener or clipper (or something like that), to hold the iPod secure in its place. Once I thought about placing the unit over my car console on a long trip, but even if I secured the speakers, the iPod would drop out of its place, whenever the car passed over a bump. - If this unit had a remote, it would be perfect... ;-)

These Altec inMotion speakers work well as portable iPod speakers - as long as you don't expect fantastic sound. The unit folds flat into a 8" by 5" rectangle, only 1" thick. When folded down, the speakers are completely protected, although the iPod port remains exposed. Best of all, the unit doubles as a dock since it charges your iPod when plugged in, either with the speakers in position or folded flat. The unit comes with a cloth carrying bag to protect the unit from scratching while on the road. The system can run on house current or on 4 AA batteries. The AC adapter takes 100-240 volts, thus automatically converting the current for foreign countries. (You still need a plug adapter for international use.)But what about the sound? At low levels, the sound is decent, but as you increase the volume, it tends to get tinny, with a slight hiss, as though you're listening to an older recording. With better portable speakers on the market since this was first introduced, you should compare other speakers within this price range. I use the inMotion system primarily to take my music outside to my deck during get-togethers; if I'm traveling, I use the ear buds so I don't disturb anyone. For those who hate ear buds, however, this is an inexpensive portable device that travels well and which can be used to recharge the iPod. This makes a great inexpensive speaker system for college students, teenagers, and travelers who would rather dispense with ear buds or share their music with the rest of the room.

Exactly what I wanted!,

I saw this for $29.99 down from $150 and thought what's the catch? Is this thing actually going to work?I've wanted something like this for some time but didn't feel like paying a lot of money. I have a 30G Video Ipod, but this thing fits all sizes. I figured $29.99 + $6 I'm going to take a chance. I received it the other day in the mail and I haven't turned it off since. I have an office probably 12x12 and needed something to play the Ipod while I do my work. The sound is clearer then I thought it would be. It turns up pretty loud too. Obviously I'm not going to light up the house with it but you can definitely hear it 2-3 rooms over as well. I thought this thing was going to be a little bigger in size but it is actually pretty small which makes it better for when you travel. It will be great for the beach hotel next summer. It also comes with 4 different adjustable sockets in case you go to another country. I thought that was pretty cool, except I will probably never use them. I thought I was going to need batteries with this but it ends up that you can just plug it in the wall or you could use batteries. I noticed in another review that someone said it could be improved if there was something to cover the hole when the ipod was not in the slot. They must have not seen them because I received 2 different things your can stick over it. One is a rubber piece and the second has a trap door that opens through the top. They really thought about the details with this thing. I noticed someone else said they should have had a strap to hold the ipod in place. It does have a back support, so as long as your not jumping on a trampoline with it, you'll be fine. If you plan on just leaving it on the shelf while it plays, this is what you want. Can't beat the price for $29.99. Hope the review helped you out.

Beats the Logitech mm50 in sound (and price?),
By
This review is from: Altec Lansing inMotion Plus Speaker Dock for iPod (White) (Electronics)
We bought the Logitech mm50 a while back for playing/charging our iPods. It works nicely, but recently a friend brought the Altec Lansing inMotion Plus and we did a side by side blind taste test. The Altec Lansing won by a good deal on sound quality -- richer and more able to fill a room with sound without sounding tinny. The Logitech sounds muddy and harsh at higher volumes, even with/without it's "bass booster" setting. The Altec Lansing is also a little smaller, and appears to have an input that will accept the iPod charger plug (the same one on a regular iPod charger), meaning one less AC adapter to worry about. The Logitech does have a remote control, which is kind of nice, if limited. Finally, at the current moment, it appear that Office Depot is selling the Altec Lansing for $30, which must be some sort of loss-leader, since it lists for $149 and so does the Logitech mm50.Bottom line, both are good; I would choose the Altec Lansing for it's sound quality if I had the chance again.

Great sound from a tiny package- not tinny like a lot of small speakers. Very portable. No problems with connectivity/sync to a third generation iPod (which wasn't the case with a lot of other speaker docks). No remote, but not a concern for my wife and myself. The price from office depot (through amazon) was $30 (may have been clearing out older model). This was 1/3 to 1/4 the price for comparable, nondiscounted products. If the remote is not a concern, get this before they're out.

This is an outstanding product. It has great sound, good bass, and can be turned up LOUD. It is also compact, light, folds up, and comes with different AC adapters so it can be used in multiple countries. And at just thirty dollars the product has great value. Overall this product is perfect for listening to your iPod outloud at a great, affordable price.
