It is grown exclusively in the fertile soils of Surin, a province in the East of Thailand situated along the Cambodian border. This particular region has the ideal combination of soil and climatic conditions required to produce premium rice. Farmers of the Agrarian Cooperative of Surin cultivate the Alter Eco Thai Rice using traditional farming methods that ensure quality and respect for the environment. Chemical fertilizers and pesticides have been replaced with organic fertilizers and natural plant extracts to produce this naturally scented jasmine rice. Alter Eco takes fair trade a step further by supplementing the fair trade minimum revenue paid to farmers with an additional Alter Eco developmental premium, managed by the members, was invented in a factor for the processing and packaging of rice. They can now export directly, no longer having to rely on costly middlemen, In addition, profit from sales is being used to obtain organic certification and provide training programs. This is high quality jasmine rice. The aroma, texture and taste are superb. It comes vacuum packed and is stamped with a freshness date. It's well worth the modest premium in price to get an excellent product like this and support the fair trade and organic movements at the same time.

I forgot I'd bought this in bulk previously. It's not a great rice and certainly not an aromatic one. The Texmati (and I am not affiliated with either company) is more aromatic and a better rice (to me). Use much less water, by the way, if you use an electric rice maker.
