brutal metal at its finest,

I think I did something right when I bought this CD by Blood Red Throne.
normally, Florida is where you find brutal death metal (e.g. Deicide and Morbid Angel) but can you believe this band is from Norway? while not like Deicide, this is more Morbid Angel worship. I cannot wait for the new album that BRT is releasing in 2007. it should be a bomb.

Blood Red Throne's previous two albums didn't grab my attention, but I must admit I haven't given them much of an opportunity to do so. I seem to recall the old school production and in particular the guitar sound was not to my liking. "Altered Genesis" has changed everything, and I plan to go back and give the other two albums another chance. This is polished, tight and kicking death metal that still takes a glance back at the early 90s, but sounds very modern at the same time.
Considering Tchort (Emperor, Green Carnation) is a member of Blood Red Throne, I always expected the band were capable of writing proficient music, and one listen to album opener "Incarnated Mangler" justified this expectation. There are riffs aplenty here, with awesome drumming and very suitable (if not exceptional) death vocals. Things are mostly mid-paced and I'd have to say the easiest comparison would be Cannibal Corpse or even Deicide. Even though I find it difficult to find anything particularly original about this album, I find myself enjoying it very much. Tracks like "Mephitication" and the title track are brutal and excellent examples of death metal created by experienced exponents. There really isn't much else to say about this. I'm sure you already know whether "Altered Genesis" is for you or not. If you're a fan of Florida death metal, then pick up these Norwegian's latest effort without question. If you're after something original or highly technical, look elsewhere. This is turning out to be a good year for death metal fans and we're only getting started. With albums from Lost Soul, Immolation, Blood Red Throne and Belphegor already giving us reasons to mosh and be merry.

Don't listen to the Wannabe Metalhead up Top!,

First of all, ANYONE that puts these great metallers in the same domain as Limp Bizkit, Korn, or any of the other bands of the faux metal scene, just get out of music altogether, because YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT! This is death metal at its finest, and the only way Fred Durst will get even close to this is when he is lying in his own grave. NOW, that said....hehe.... This is one of the best albums that I have heard this year in the death scene. They take the speed of old slayer, with the intricacies and technical aspect of Necrophagist, and throw it all together to create a stew of death that only the most extreme can handle. Check this album out, and you will not be sorry! I would pick a favorite track, but they are all really good. BUY THIS ALBUM!
