Biography

TesseracT began life as a solo project in a dark, cluttered room inhabited by Acle Kahney. With the initial idea to create music with no boundaries, except that it must move you and make you want to groove, embrace and enhance you; giving you what you think you want and then taking you somewhere totally unexpected. It is a mature, unique and mind bending piece of music that works on the listener on multiple levels.
Itzik Hagoel
Altered State is essential listening for fans of Tesseract and Karnivool and will definitely go down as one of the best albums in this style of music.
Michael
I love heavy guitar married to solid melodies, clean singing, and intricate composition, and this has all of that.

Altered State is the second album from progressive rockers Tesseract and it is simply one of the best albums ever made in this style of music. The band delivers a deep dark album full of intense musical performances from all band members while simultaneously creating some very memorable melodies and grooves that capture your ear at every turn. The album was self produced and sounds amazing with lots of great layering of parts and an excellent mix that allows all the many layers to breathe. The change in vocals has done no harm to their sound and the absence of screams has really lifted the vibe of their music to a point where the entire set sounds unique and mysterious. It is very difficult to mention highlights in an album that seems so complete and in which the entire flow of songs feels like a musical journey but the single "Nocturne" will give you an excellent example of what this album delivers. From syncopated grooves to soaring melodies and soft interludes, Altered State delivers a very satisfying progressive metal hit. Words will never do justice to an album of such high quality so I suggest you listen and hear for yourself. Altered State is essential listening for fans of Tesseract and Karnivool and will definitely go down as one of the best albums in this style of music. By the way, Tesseract will be supporting Karnivool on their UK tour at the end of the year so definitely check that out if you live nearby!

I typically don't write reviews for Amazon.com but I feel compelled to this time around because this album is simply magnificent. I am a long-time progressive metal fan and I have to say that Tesseract is one of the most unique, dynamic, and impressive bands to recently arrive in the genre as well as the "djent" prog-metal sub-genre. In this album, the band combines intense syncopation, bone-crushingly heavy guitar parts, mind-blowing poly-rhythms, lush atmospherics, pristine production value, catchy grooves, and generally astounding instrumentation with soaring melodic clean vocal harmonies. My favorites on the album include Nocturne and Eclipse but I would advise you to listen to it all at once considering it is composed of one long prog-metal suite. I would highly recommend this for fans of bands such as Dream Theater, Opeth, Periphery, and Pain of Salvation, among others, or just of good, memorable music.

Being a fan of TesseracT, I will admit I had HUGE expectations with this second LP. I consider the suite " Concealing Fate" as one of the most inspiring piece of progressive rock music since "A change of season".
Well, in a nutschell, ALTERED STATE is a mind blowing MASTERPIECE.
To sum up, I would go like this :
- Music : flawless tunes , very well balanced and on top ADDICTING
- Ashe O' Hara 's voice : wonderfull, powerfull and beautifull
- Progressive Density : this LP could be labelled as Top Notch Progressive music , ie : the songs don't go towards 10 musical directions at the same time
- Production : simply astonishing. Ackle and Amos accomplished a great work here. It's spacial, dense, tight and refreshing. In my opinion, the mixing treatment on Drums is fantastic.

The album is a MUST buy. I woud add also that LIVE, TesseracT is a terrific experience. The overall sound of the Band is unique.

I'm new to Tesseract.
I really fell in love with Djent with Meshuggah and Vildhjarta.
Somebody told me to check out the stream of Tesseract on Youtube so I did.
Where do I begin?
Brilliant.
Technical.
Very difficult to get into.
I can't really say I have a favorite song since the entire album is one giant movement or song, if you will.
I favor the first half over the second but all of it is amazing.
The lack of harsh vocals may turn some off but the singer is so good I just didn't mind the lack of growling.
This is the kind of disc you sit back and chill to.
One of my top 2013 releases.
Open minded metal heads have to check this one out.
Recommended.

I became an instant fan of TesseracT the minute I heard 'One.' I didn't know what to expect next, especially after the multiple changes in lineup -- then I started it up, listened, and after it was over, I picked my jaw up off the floor and was instantly hooked. 'Altered State' is simply a brilliant album. Some albums are just music. This is art.

What are you waiting for? Go listen to it!

The instrumentation from their debut CD "One" is intact. The changes in dynamics, lush atmospheres, syncopated rhythms and pristine production are all included. New singer Ashe O'Hara has wonderful vocal delivery and his layered harmonies are engaging and really cause you to hit "play" right away when the music ends.

Tesseract has had a few bumps in the road over the last few years but "Altered States" proves that through tribulations a strong group can become stronger.

Chances are that if you are reading this you already know and enjoy Tesseract. If you are on the fence about it, take my word for it: this is a sure-thing. It will be your medicine today.

Now, if they would please come to USA to perform live, that would be great.
