Editorial Reviews

Tetrafusion's blend of complex, technical coupled with a highly intellectual melodic structure offers an eclectic brand of progressive rock and metal along the likes of PORCUPINE TREE, RUSH, DREAM THEATER, CYNIC, TOOL, and MUSE. Originally an instrumental band, they released their debut record ''Absolute Zero'' to critical acclaim, which quickly launched the band into the underground metal scene and was hailed as one of the Top 10 albums of 2009 by ULTIMATE-GUITAR.COM

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Second Album June 27, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I don't write a lot of reviews, but thought that for a band with such limited name recognition and only one other review it would be well-worth the time to take a minute and give you something to chew on. I've listened through the album fully three times, and it just keeps getting better. While Tetrafusion is unquestionably musically gifted, both in terms of writing and technical skill, they have done something great in this album. They're producing music within a genre where with some bands the musicianship becomes so technical and complex that the music is no longer enjoyable to plug in and listen to. That is not the case here. It goes from quiet and soft to soaring and wailing. It's never one things all the time, which I really appreciate, because it makes you really listen to what you're listening to, consider why they did one certain thing or another at a particular point in the song. Altered State has some really interesting lyrics, as well as a ton of variety in each song. They take a set of thoughts or questions they are seemingly wrestling with and put them to brilliant music. Wonderful change-ups catch you off guard at unexpected times, but they just add to the mystique of each track. Gotta hand it to you guys, you did a great job here. Really enjoying this, and would highly recommend checking out both of Tetrafusion's albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice prog rock/metal album October 13, 2010
By John
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
If you are a prog rock/metal fan, you should cash in on this. It's worth the $6 for sure. It's not mind blowing but it's new and interesting. And these guys are young, gotta support the new groups out there. The vocals are particularly unique sounding; a more operatic version of dream theater. And if you have heard songs from their previous album and liked those, these songs are a step up.

Let's just hope their next album keeps the trend going. Because there are some issues. The drummer isn't up to par I don't believe,(there are some timing inconsistencies but I'm a drummer so maybe that's why I noticed). And the recording/mixing could have been a little better. The overall sound is a little weak at times, not very full. Some of the conclusions of songs are also kind of awkward. But overall, it is enjoyable. A good album to add to the prog rock/metal collection.
