Altered art is a popular craft these days, and practitioner Arendt buoyantly introduces its elements and procedures in this informative, attractive book. She defines altered art as the refashioning of any object "using a variety of techniques and mediums, giving the object a new purpose or look," with the idea, of course, to personalize the item in some fashion. (The calling card of the craft, the salient characteristic that makes it so popular, other than its creative results, of course, is that a crafter doesn't have to be an expert artist to do it.) This guide concentrates on altering books. Beginning with complete coverage of needed and suggested materials and supplies, and taking the reader/crafter step-by-step through a series of specific projects, Arendt shows how to take a book and make, among other things, an attractive journal, a display for souvenirs of a special occasion, or, using a book's covers, a box for holding commemorative items. Her encouraging tone will inspire even new crafters to venture into this rewarding activity.
