This has been a stressful year with ill health, multiple high dose runs of prednisone, antibiotics etc. Already color treated my hair became extremely dull and dry, a reflection of all my body has been enduring. I switched from Redken to Fekkai but my hair quickly reverted back to a dull frizz ball, barely recognizable as human hair. Reading multiple shampoo reviews I was anxious to experiment further before the brillo pad on my head worsened. Several shampoo brands were immediately ruled out due to my allergies/asthma as their natural products would only make my respiratory status even worse (Bumble and Bumble, Purelogy, Aveda etc).

Fingers crossed I tried Alterna Caviar Seasilk Shampoo. It was as if my hair had dialed "911" and this shampoo answered the distress call. I cannot believe what a difference it has made! Granted, it is more expensive but well worth the investment for my hair's health and general outlook on life. The expense is also overcome as I don't need to use nearly the quantity of shampoo as previously. I compared Amazon to salon prices of the shampoo and Amazon was by far more reasonable. I also purchased the conditioner, another great product.

Wow! This has been the one of my best purchases from Amazon this year!


Added 10-04-10: This has been a Godsend! I just ordered the larger size as I continue to use it. That is a major statement for me as I love to "Flirt" with hair products and makeup, never staying with one for long. (Check out my reviews if you don't believe me.) I am on my 7th tappering run of high dose steroids and antibiotics this year, it is crippling to my emotional health, feeling of well being not to mention the effects on my body. This is the only shampoo that made my hair feel like hair again and not straw. Apparently co-workers noticed as one just ordered the shampoo/conditioner combo.

I'm 39 years old with thick, frizzy, highlighted hair. My hair, even when it's not color-treated, is so dry it's crunchy. While making my way through high-end to low-end "moisturizing" hair products that didn't make a dent in my dryness, I got a sample of Alterna Caviar Moisture shampoo and conditioner. I didn't expect much of it--the scent was just okay (IMHO), and the consistency was like most shampoos and conditioners. But my hair was so soft and smooth. After straightening, I usually have flyaways and kinks. But after using Alterna, my hair was as smooth as baby hair. I've been using Alterna Caviar for several months now and I highly recommend this. The Rapid Repair Spray is also good. I've tried the Caviar Blonde, but it's not as moisturizing.

I was skeptical about purchasing such an expensive bottle of shampoo/conditioner and I actually put off buying it for a few months and kept searching for other less pricey brands of sulfate free shampoo & conditioner. But I kept coming back to Alterna and wondering why not give it a chance? Order the small bottles first.

I got them within a few days and immediately ran into the shower to try them. Oh how luxurious this alterna is! My hair felt so clean, my scalp felt free, and it smelled pretty damn good! A nice, soft smell that isn't overpowering and it lasts all day long.

The second rave I have is this. I have thin hair on top and I've always bought products that produce volume but most of them don't really do that and your hair ends up flat mid-way through the day and is very disappointing. BUT this shampoo/conditioner gave me a little volume to my hair within the first week of use. I was so very happy and decided this is what I will use from now on. No other shampoo/conditioner will come near my hair ever again.

Trust me. Go get these, try them and you will never look back! :)

Amazing product line and every time I jump away from Alterna Caviar to try another premium line, I regret. Gray hairs start to return, as does dryness and brassy color. Just last night, I received my order....and touched my dry-ish frizzy hair before I used shampoo and conditioner...Today all day, I touched my smooth hair, smelled its wonderful scent, and had two people tell me my color was great. SMILE. So I had to write this review. The real side benefit of this product and probably due to the antioxidants is that I get next to no gray hairs when I use it. True fact.

My two other favorite lines are Bumble & Bumble and Deva Curl Products.

I've been using Alterna Caviar Shampoo and Conditioner for 4 years now and it has yet to disappoint. I'm an every other day washer and I have noticed since the formula is pretty rich, my hair can look a little greasy the second day but I just use Alterna dry shampoo on those days. Yes, I'm that much of a fan of Alterna. The smell is nice and light, easily unisex. My hair is fine but a lot of it, it doesn't weigh my hair down like most moisturizing lines. The texture of my hair is seriously worth every penny spent, it's ridiculously soft and shiny even when I'm way overdue for a haircut it keeps my split ends to a minimum.

This is the best shampoo I have ever used! I don't like always having to use a conditioner so this is great. My hair is very soft and shiny and it seems to give my hair more volume too which I love! It also smells great too and you only need a very small amount! I have found with other moisturizing shampoos they don't lather very much and I hate that. Not with this one, you get the best of everything. Great product!!

Great Product tons of volume! Recommend to everyone, you only use very little and this will last for months. I usually shampoo every 2nd day this will hold well over every third day and still hold your style. ; )

By far, this is the best shampoo out there- once I tried it, I never went back- even after a year of use! I had used Kerastase for a long time along with other as expensive or more expensive brands like Phyto and Fekkai. My hair is very thick, color-treated, and coarse; I typically have to use a lot of shampoo as my coarse hair soaks in product. Immediately when I tried this my hair felt so great - even in the shower. I find that my hair is very shiny, feels so healthy, and I don't have to use a ton of shampoo to get it clean. I definitely recommend this. I follow up with the same Alterna anti-aging conditioner. I have tried other Alterna shampoos (when the anti-aging was out of stock) but I didn't like it as well as this one. I would say that this shampoo, conditioner + moroccanoil is all I need for my hair.

I recently had a brazilian blow out. They always suggest that you use a shampoo that is sulfate free to make it last longer. So I purchased this item from the salon. I don't know where this has been my whole life! It is fabulous. I even have 2 tracks of extensions in (dead hair) and I used to have them changed out every 2 months because they would dry out and look fake. However, this shampoo and conditioner make even my extensions last for 3+ months. Such a great product.
