5.0 out of 5 stars Has provided me many hours of crafting goodness!
The projects here are varied and so great (the curtains made from bandanas? Love!), there are color photos on practically every page, the directions are clear, and it is spiral-bound--this is such a plus with craft books.

All in all, this is probably my favorite craft book that I've seen.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lo-Budget? Yes. Hi-Style? No.
I was disappointed. Most of this stuff looks trashy. The only thing I want to make is the tshirt rag rug. Everything else just didn't seem appealing. Check this out at the library first, like I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and easy and pretty, April 30, 2006
This review is from: Alternacrafts: 20+ Hi-Style Lo-Budget Projects to Make (Spiral-bound)
Most craft books don't have enough pictures and illustrations for my liking. This one has a lot -- really breaks down the projects into steps that are easy to follow. Nothing is too hard. The photos are beautiful. The projects are quirky. I like all the recycling (flowers from sunday comics, old sweaters into new hats). You don't have to go out and buy much. Especially good for making gifts.

If you're crafty, sometimes you get in a funk and can't think of things to make. This book will get you started on some new ideas. I had seen the shaggy dog rug in another book, but I liked this one even better. I didn't use it for my dog, but even better: a bath mat! It took a long time, but it was easy, and I get compliments on it all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, May 30, 2006
This review is from: Alternacrafts: 20+ Hi-Style Lo-Budget Projects to Make (Spiral-bound)
This book is great!!! I'm not very crafty, but when I saw this book, I though, why not? The projects are cool and the directions are clear and easy. Most craft books are either super dorky or super snotty, but this book rules. It's cool and really accessible to every level of crafter. A lot of people will get this book as a gift this year from me. Nice work :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Crafts Book for Everyone, August 10, 2006

*****
If you are interested in expensive, creative, easy, explicitly intructed craft ideas, you'll love this book. I am not a "crafter", yet I could follow the instructions for these projects easily. Most important of all, the supplies are "found" objects, things you have around the house anyway, for the most part, and you don't need to spend a lot of money buying supplies.

This book would be great for all ages, especially teens and young adults. However, I am middle-aged and loved it! It is rather elementary, but I needed that. Great value!

If only I could take two months off of work and sitdown and make every project in this book back to back...
Whether you're a craft-aholic, or if you're just looking to make a one-off quick gift for a friend, this book is for you.
I loved it.

I really love this book. First off, the spiral-bound design keeps it open flat on the table as you work on a project. Clever!
Secondly, the projects really are cool. Not only can you make presents from the step-by-step project instructions in this book, you can get inspired from the book and invent your own, or else you can just cut to the chase and give AlternaCrafts as the gift. Clever!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Craft Book in a long time, July 8, 2009
This review is from: Alternacrafts: 20+ Hi-Style Lo-Budget Projects to Make (Spiral-bound)
I bought this book for my cousin who is a very craft 5th grade teacher because I felt there are several things she could do with her class cheaply or with stuff everybody has but nobody wants. Who doesn't have a old sweater that they don't wear anymore, but can't part with - hey reincarnate and turn it into a cool hat! Before giving it to her, (I know I'm bad) I memorized how to make "skants." I made my first pair of skants today and love them! What a great way to salvage a pair of weird jeans and turn them into the perfect skirt. This book rocks and I think I may buy it for myself.
