This text covers a broad range of renewable energy technologies. It does require, however, prerequisite knowledge of fluid mechanics. This disclaimer is made clear at the very beginning of the text, so if you do not have such foundational knowledge in fluid mechanics, it will be very difficult to understand and appreciate the application of this knowledge to the technologies that are discussed in this book. In my opinion, one consistent problem in this text that I found difficult to deal with is that the variables that are captured as part of a formula are not clearly defined immediately after the presentation of the formula to the reader. In general, the variables in these formulas are not defined until several pages after the formula is introduced. For example, once equations (7-3) and (7-4) are introduced to the reader in Chapter 7, the variables cp and Tave are not defined immediately after these two formulas are introduced to the reader for the first time in this Chapter. In addition, the figure that I believe is intended to highlight these two formulas does not disclose the meaning of these two variables. It is not until two pages later that the meaning the variable Tave is clearly defined. However, the variable cp still remains to be defined. In my opinion, this book would be much easier to read if the variables that are introduced in a formual for the first time are clearly defined immediately or very shortly after the formula is introduced to the reader. Another issue that I found with the text is that the exercise problems at the end of some chapters, like Chapter 2, for example, are missing critical information in order to solve the problems, such as the numerical values of the angles in Problem 3 at the end of Chapter 2.Read more ›

Excellent textbook for college students that want to start discovering energy conversion systems. Many practical examples showing applications of renewable energy, particularly solar and wind. The instructors' supporting manual of this book is excellent. I would recommend this book to all college instructors teaching electrical energy courses.
