A too-balanced review,
By A Customer
This review is from: Alternatives in Cancer Therapy: The Complete Guide to Alternative Treatments (Paperback)
Compared to other books like David Bognar's "Cancer: Increasing Your Odds for Survival" and Michael Lerner's classic and profound "Choices in Healing," this book is weak indeed. It is nothing more than a laundry list of a variety of alternative therapies, all presented with a dry and straight-faced summarization. Had I not read other and better books on the same subject, I would have walked away from this volume certainly no wiser and probably more confused about non-traditional cancer treatments. A real disappointment to me as a recovering cancer patient trying to avoid recurrence. If you are looking for the definitive work on the subject, put your money elsewhere.

An excellent no nonsense appraisel,

This book surprised me as I was expecting an anti-traditional therapy tirade. Instead I found a well balanced up to date summary of alternative therapies with excellent reference material and a writing style that reflected the authors compassion.I feel this book should be read by everyone not just cancer patients as the list of preventative measures available will prolong a lot of lives. The authors frequently stress the importance of using suggested therapies as an assistance to traditional therapies not as an alternative.I feel the knowledge I have gained from reading this book will prolong my own life as well as others I will share the information with.I long for the day when the public will rise en-masse and take responsibility for their own lives. Easy to find summaries.A valuable Reference Work.

Interesting, but outdated,
By Kenneth J Prag (Stockton, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alternatives in Cancer Therapy: The Complete Guide to Alternative Treatments (Paperback)
Cancer therapy is a rapidly moving target. New alternatives are introduced each day. This book written in 1994 has very little of the newer alternatives. I found it to be of little use in finding some new alternative.

Not only is the information old, it's not very comprehensive. If you can get hold of Ron Falcone's Complete Guide To Alternative Cancer Therapies (also outdated but technically, very informative and provides an excellent background into key alternative therapies), do so. From a historical standpoint, Falcone's work is an excellent and scholarly introduction to the subject.

a balanced approach,
By Bennett Rabinsky (Arkansas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alternatives in Cancer Therapy: The Complete Guide to Alternative Treatments (Paperback)
When you look down the list of these supplements, some seem eeriebecause we have attached them to radical, non traditional treatments that people used to go to back alleys in order to obtain. Now, however, the blended and supplemental approach to cancer treatment has make it more acceptable for patients to access additional treatments instead of opting for one or the other....I think Pelton's book is a very good start.

I think that this book should be translated to every language and be read by all people concerned, doctors and patients alike. This book gives you an insight into what really goes on and what should go on...
