Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Made up of former members of Five Iron Frenzy and the Rocker Summer, Yellow Second has been staple in the Denver, Colorado music scene for the past few years. Now on their third project, Altitude, Yellow Second is taking their music to a new level, singing with Floodgate Records for their debut national release. Yellow Second brings a musical sensibility to the table, creating an album that fuses pop-rock hooks, and distinctive vocals with smart lyrics and an alternative beat.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best power-pop records ever made, December 5, 2007
This CD is the amazing. The playing and instrumentation are all pretty good, nothing amazing but this is power-pop so the playing is generally pretty straight forward. Andy from Five Iron Frenzy plays drums on this CD (rejoining Scott who departed from Five Iron after "Our Newest Album Ever". As far I can tell Scott is the only band member who also played on both of Yellow Second's earlier June One and Still Small CDs (which are both great).

Where this CD really shines is in the songwriting and arrangement. The hooks are among the catchiest you will ever hear, the songs will play over in your head long after you listen to them. Where the writing especially shines is in some of the best bridges ever written for pop songs (this is true on the earlier CDs as well). They're smart, catchy and perfectly play off the verses and choruses.

It pretty much cements how screwed up the music industry is that a band this good isn't on the radio in regular rotation.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY 10 give to friends, July 28, 2005

(REAL NAME)
I've been listening to this for the past several day since finding is on Rhapsody (that service which is better than icktunes)

Great hooks, great production, intelligent lyrics. This is power pop/rock at its best. Sometimes seem Weezer inspired, but still their own animal. Definitely a melody humming CD if I have ever heard one. You'll have the tracks playing in your head in no time, and not in an annoying way. In a good way that makes you smile and bob your head. That is until you can put those earbud in or crank up the knob again.

"Some Other Way" is serious Jack Johnson competition. But smoother if you can believe it. Dreamy sound effects, great keyboards, perfect drums and (is that a tombourine in there?)... Cool stuff.

Read that thes guys formed from the remnants/collaboration of Five Iron Frenzy and Rocket Summer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't wait a second longer, get this, July 26, 2005
By whitsbrain (Minneapolis, MN United States) - See all my reviews
"Material" is a blend of grungy guitars and pretty harmonies laid over a sparse arrangement. Why a tune like this wasn't a huge hit, I'll never know. "Mulberry" features a noisy but pretty verse with an absolutely drop dead gorgeous chorus. To give you an idea of what we are dealing with here, Superdrag, late-era Posies, Weezer, Summercamp and more recently Dibs. There is no way that fans of slightly meatier Power Pop will not totally enjoy the music of Yellow Second.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, great guys.
I met these guys when they were playing in my friends' basement for donations. They'd come all the way to Nashville and sadly couldn't secure a venue. Read more
