5.0 out of 5 stars Get some- Pull up bar
Fantastic bar and its very sturdy, comes with four brackets so you can install two levels. I launch myself up this thing and don't even feel it bending, however the lock in system might rattle a litle bit if you go to fast but it is definitely secure.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good bar but brackets are poorly designed, February 14, 2011

This review is from: 3 in 1 Chin-Up + Push-Up + Sit-Up Bar (Sports)
The pull-up bar itself is designed well; however, the brackets are not. This bar comes with two removable grips and four identical brackets with screws. I would recommend using longer screws than the ones provided to mount the brackets.

Pros:
1) Strong bar and once in the brackets, very sturdy

2) Removable grips (can wash them when they get dirty or just remove them and not use them at all)

Cons:
1) The brackets are way too wide to fit in a standard door frame. The width of the bracket is 2-3/8" but don't forget to leave room for the locking mechanisms that stick out which adds another 1/4". So it is basically a 2-5/8" wide bracket. Go measure where you plan on installing it. Is it at least 2-5/8" wide? I doubt it. And 2-5/8" is even cutting it close since you will need room for your fingers to manipulate the locking mechanisms. If you have a doorway with no door and you don't need to worry about the brackets blocking a closing door, the bar may work since the holes for the brackets are drilled 1" apart on center and the standard width for the center part of a door frame is 1-3/8".

2) The locking mechanism is great for sit-ups so the bar doesn't rise up out of the brackets. However, it is very difficult to rotate the locking mechanisms to remove the bar from the brackets when they are mounted above your head for pull-ups. They should have one set of brackets without the locking mechanisms to use for pull-ups. If you plan on taking this bar down frequently, you may get a better workout trying to get the bar down than you did doing the pull-ups.

I gave a rating of 2 stars instead of 1 because the bar is sturdy and the brackets are acceptable if you somehow could find a way to mount them. So, before you order please measure to see if you have the room for the brackets.

I returned my order and it was the first time ever returning anything out of literally 1000's of purchases from Amazon. I love Amazon even more now since the return was seamless and shipping was paid for.

Hasta

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, November 22, 2010
This review is from: 3 in 1 Chin-Up + Push-Up + Sit-Up Bar (Sports)
I could not install this bar on any of my doors as the bracket is too big. Only 3 out of 5 screws can be used. So the bracket extends further and does not look good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bit tricky to install and move, January 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 3 in 1 Chin-Up + Push-Up + Sit-Up Bar (Sports)
As mentioned in other reviews, the brackets for these are over 2 inches wide. There are four brackets in case you want to move the bar to a low position as well as a high position, but that would be difficult. The brackets have little floppy metal pieces that need to move freely. Even though installation should have been simple (just screw in the brackets and slide the bar in), it wasn't straightforward. The bar didn't go easily into the brackets for me, which is great for stability but bad if I ever want to slide the bar back out of the brackets. I'll need a rubber mallet to get the bar out. If you get this, you definitely want to slide the ends into the brackets before you mount them to see how they fit. The neoprene or foam handles are movable (they open and close with Velcro), which is nice if you want to change your grip around. The bar doesn't twist in the brackets: everything feels solid.

The brackets are too thick for many regular door frames. Beware since the company failed to advertise this.

As one other reviewer noticed, the brackets are a little too wide for a standard door jamb. I have wider door frames and this fits well with the brackets that it comes with. The handle grips are very comfortable and the Bar is extremely easy to hang when you want to do a quick workout before work. Total install time for the brackets without reading any instructions = 15 minutes (includes setting up the drill). I recommend drilling a small 1/16" diameter hole so that you wont split the wood when you insert the screw. I also used a longer screw to get a more secure attachment to the inside stud. I didn't really care too much for the bracket finish it comes with. Its way too shiny which makes it very unsightly and people notice when they come over. I painted mine a matte white to blend in better and it looks much better. The paint hasn't scratched for a month so far. Might need touch-up in a few months of use.

1.0 out of 5 stars BAD design, February 16, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The brackets that hold the bar are poorly designed. They don't fit in a standard doorway and there is a rivet in the back of the bracket that prevents it from mounting flush to the surface. Only three of the screws could be used and only two of the three are in a position to grab a hold of the stud. Mounting and removing the bar from the brackets is an exercise in frustration. Do NOT buy this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock solid!, January 9, 2012

This review is from: 3 in 1 Chin-Up + Push-Up + Sit-Up Bar (Sports)
Our old chin up bar, which barely fit our 35" frame, felt like it would snap in half if you hung in the middle. I was concerned that this one might be similar since its maximum length is listed at 36". Even at 35" wide, this Altus bar still has at least a full foot overlap between the bars and does not bend AT ALL. I know some people don't like the hangers because it's hard to get the bar out of them, but I don't plan on moving mine at all, so it's a non-issue for me. The screws are longer than I expected and should hold well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well built, September 28, 2011
This review is from: 3 in 1 Chin-Up + Push-Up + Sit-Up Bar (Sports)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I finally have this installed and in use. Initially I was a bit taken aback as there were no real instructions on how to install it, but it was fairly evident after looking at the pieces included on how to install the bar. The next problem I had was that the framing in the basement where I was going to install it was just studs spaced for a door, but since there was no door or door frame it was too wide for the bar to go up. After fixing this problem and quickly getting the upper and lower points set for the bar (I did use bigger screws than those provided as I wanted to get through the extra wood I put in to make the bar fit). Overall, the bar seems to be comfortable to use for situps and hopefully someday I'll be doing pullups instead of just hanging onto the bar. For the price this seems to be a great buy, hopefully it will hold up under use. If this changes I'll post an update.
