5.0 out of 5 stars This is what you need for a serious ab workout, March 16, 2004

It seems like all you need to make money is a product called "Ab" something and an infomercial budget. What people looking for real ab workouts (in addition to other aerobic conditioning and weight training) need is this wheel. Sure, at the gym there are ways to work abs with weighted crunches and the like, and for sure use the swiss ball. But this roller wheel is the real ticket for isolating all ab muscles and giving them a good workout.

My dad had one of these years ago, so since everything good is new, that wheel didn't work very well, right? Well, no. Apparantly, someone actually used it (and used it, and used it) and found it, unlike every other ab something, actually worked! 8 bucks, easy to work (move forward, and come back -- then go to each side). After trying a couple of admittedly silly products for fun, I realized the motion of this wheel was what I needed. So, I picked it up. And it will work the ab muscles in a way that you must start off very slowly and work your way up, or you will have a massive abdominal ache for the next few days.

This wheel does nothing for bodyfat, so if your abs are covered up by a layer of fat, you must burn that with 1) better eating; 2) a sensible aerobic workout and 3) a good quality weight training regimen. You can't do just one or even two, you have to do all three. Weight training builds lean muscle that, by itself, burns some fat. Ladies, don't worry about looking like Barry Bonds; that won't happen without the drugs he allegedly takes. You won't get big. But start with this item and forget all the other ab devices.

3.0 out of 5 stars Yuck, October 10, 2004

Yes, this is works, although it's not something a beginner will excel in right away. This particular abdominal tool is for the intermediate to advanced. Still, the worst part in the design is the material used. It smells like an old, cheap rubber tire, and when you're done using it, your hands reek even after washing them. It's under eight bucks for a reason. There are other useful ab tools out there. My advice is to investigate them all before purchasing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely effective, January 11, 2006

(VINE VOICE)
I've been working out 3 times a week since 1972. But I had a lower back injury 2 years ago that severely limited what I could do. I have been able to do a partial workout since then, but my overall general physical condition gradually deteriorated. I put on about 10 pounds and lost some muscle tone. But now, thanks to patience and a good osteopath, I'm finally able to get back into the full routine again. I've found this Altus Ab Wheel to be extremely fast-working and effective. I've been using it for a little over a month and I have gotten dramatic visible results. At the beginning it was not easy, but I'm now at the intermediate stage and have firmed up considerably. This device doesn't just work the abdominal muscles. It works to some extent on the entire body, especially the arms, chest and shoulders. Of course the Ab Wheel won't do it alone. It's important to get aerobic exercise that causes a good sweat and if you want washboard abs, you'll have to diet as well. I'm very pleased with the results I've had so far. I expect to move on to the "advanced" stage next week. This is a good piece of exercise equipment and it takes up virtually no room in a crowded New York apartment. I wish I had gotten it a long time ago.
