5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the Big Kahuna
I bought both the Big Kahuna LED flashlight and this one. I bought both because I couldn't make up my mind based on the existing reviews for either. This one, the 100 LED Super Bright, is brighter and lighter than the Big Kahuna. I live out in the country and it gets very dark here at night. I used them side by side and the Kahuna was noticeably less bright. I suppose the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just Another Average Light
This flashlight has nothing special to it. It just got bigger, with more LEDs, and it eats more batteries than the smaller versions of it (9LED, 21 LED, etc.)

The light is not waterproof, so using this light during a storm is out of the question. The light is not shockproof. If you drop it, you're sure to burn out some of the LEDs.

The light beam is smooth and bright, and it'll be good enough for lighting things close up, but it will not travel far.

Its grip does smell bad, and leaving the light in the sun or hot environment will intensify the smell and leave you with a gooey mess. Thus keeping it in the car is out of the question.

Not much to say for this light, I recommend a different flashlight.

This flashlight has a solid, professional feel to it.

It does indeed have 100 bright white LED's. It generates a focused bright white circle of light and an outer, slightly dimmer circle to illuminate the surrounding area.

I am glad I bought this. Ever since surviving Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina, I always seem to be buying flashlights and batteries.

The rubber handle does smell a bit like the other reviewers said, And it gets hot when left on for a while. But it is very very bright.

I bought two of these to light up my campsite in the desert (no more Coleman propane lantern). All the other folks with regular flashlights or expensive headlamps were caught off guard when I turned it on. It's bright! It does chew batteries - both the batteries AND the metal casing around the LEDs run warm (but not hot) to the touch - but if you want lots of light you can't expect batteries to last forever. The 4 AA batteries are in a holder that slides into the handle and provides 6 volts to the switch. If you're handy with tools and solder, you could adapt this quite easily to run on 6V lantern batteries. That's my next project! A diffuser would be nice for area lighting (like a picnic table) instead of the beam the LEDs put out by default. It's not tight focus. If you want to spotlight a very distant object, get one with a lense. On the other hand, no lense and LEDs recessed in a metal grid mean you can set it down anywhere and not scratch the business end.

2.0 out of 5 stars inexpensive source of LEDs, February 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 100 LED Aluminum Alloy Flashlight (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
This is the second flashlight of this type I have purchased. I bought it because it is the cheapest source of LEDs I could find. If you are looking for a flashlight, look elsewhere. This thing has a flakey on/off switch making it unreliable.

Both of the flashlights I had had the same switch problem. The problem can be fixed by gluing the switch into the body of the flashlight but if you are looking for a flashlight, you are probably not interested in a DIY project.

September 2011

I bought another one of these flashlights and it has none of the problems of the other two previously purchased. The gimpy switch problem has been corrected and the power connection to the led array is now hard wired. It still has a stinky rubber hand grip but that is easily slipped off and discarded.

This product has become a very nice, very bright, and very inexpensive device.

I also discovered another use for this flashlight. The LED array emits enough light to be used as a spot light in a ceiling mounted tracklight installation. At $15 each, this light source is cheaper and far superior to other LED bulbs I have tried. A 6volt 5 amp wall bug supply is more than sufficient to light up four of these 100 LED arrays mounted in a homemade tracklight system.

I believe it is time to buy more of these before the price goes up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smells like old tires!, April 1, 2010

Okay, the rubber sleave smell like old tires. Now, this by itself is not bad, except it makes your hands smell like old tires. My sense of smell is not great, so when I say it smells, it smells!

After washing the weird oil off the flashlight it no longer stinks. The metal under the tube is nicely finished (like a fine pipe thread).

It seems well made. Light is powerful. Good flashlight. Later, I will cover it with some kind of scrap material, but just wrapped it with masking tape and its fine.

Anyway, I could've returned it, but like it enough to keep it. The switch is good and light is bright. Good enough!

I've spent more hours trying to fix little glitches in this pod than using it. It came with a loose connection that was fixed by putting padding tape around the battery and now was a stuck spring for tgat contact.... Stay away from this... The shipping costs more than sending it back so don't waste your money buying it

5.0 out of 5 stars Brightest flashlight ever!, November 22, 2009
This review is from: 100 LED Aluminum Alloy Flashlight (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
Got one of these for Christmas last year and used it all year (for many hours). It's durable, solid and wicked bright. Finally had to replace the batteries after leaving it on for more than a week. Ended up buying 2 more... one for a gift and another one for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very bright flashlight but..., January 27, 2009
This review is from: 100 LED Aluminum Alloy Flashlight (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
I love this flashlight simply because I have not found another LED light that comes close to this one's light output.

However the other reviewers who talk about a strange rubber/oil smell are right. It is strong and I don't like it. It stays on your hands after you use the light. I have tried to scrub it off but have not had any luck so far. Bottom line, it's a great light if you can put up with this smell and the price is right. I would have paid 10 more bucks for a quality rubber grip.
