I suffer from horrible buyers remorse, so I tend to research 'everything' prior to paying money for it. In this case, I looked at just about all of the hitches available and ultimately went with this one for a couple reasons.

First, it's made of aluminum, so Much lighter than those made of steel without sacrificing strength, as well as rust proof--only the 2" shank is steel. Second, this carrier was half the cost of most others (and I was able to pick it up at Harbor Freight and avoid paying shipping).

It sticks straight out from the hitch, so I bought an extension with a 6" rise that helps a lot. I ordered a 48" Rola cargo bag from Amazon that fits this carrier like a glove. We can now keep all of our luggage and miscellaneous 'stuff' on the back of the car, freeing up the equivalent of an entire trunk for other things (dogs/kids/diabetic cat and litter box). It makes traveling a much more pleasant experience. :)

I bought this unit to mount on the rear of my 2007 Jeep Wrangler for camping and short trips. It is good quality for the money and not too much trouble to put together. It looks good and adds sufficient space for a tent, cooler and good sized plastic water-proof container. I have two issues with it and here they are with my recommended solutions:
(1) the hole on the shaft that slides into the receiver is drilled too close to the end (this is the issue that kept me from giving the unit a 5-star rating). I would suggest to the seller to have a second hole drilled in that shaft closer to the basket so the unit can slide further into the receiver which would take out some of that "wobble". I took this part to a local machine shop and had to pay them $12 to drill a second 5/8" hole closer to the basket. This allows me to slide the unit further into the receiver and takes out a lot of that pesky "wobble". I also wrapped some Gorilla tape around the unit's shaft about an inch from the pin hole on either side. This makes it fit into the receiver much better and took out most of the rest of the wobble!
(2) My Jeep has oversized tires with one mounted on the back (this may not apply to your situation) and the shaft of this unit is too short for it to extend out far enough to clear that tire. What I did to solve this was simply buy an extension for the 2" receiver that adds 12" to the shaft and it now easily clears the tire! If you have this problem, measure how much more shaft you need to clear and order an extension the length you need. I paid about $20 for the extension at a local farm supply store.
Hope this helps!

I'm surprised this is not listed in more places, unless it is exclusive to Harbor Freight (dot) com and then resold here by independents.

Love the weight, the sides, and the rust resistance.
We traded my mini-bed pickup for a Highlander (darn kids) and needed a way to get stinky garbage to the dump without ruining the inside of the HL. Found this for less than $70 including shipping and it was a steal.

For short trips, it does everything the more expensive versions do and 1/2 the price.

Small issues:

1. Lots of bolts/nuts to install
2. Hitch post and Carrier mount holes are way bigger than the two bolts supplied.
3. Very loose fit in the 2" hitch. If I were taking it on longer trips I would get anti-vibration pin.

5 Stars for a great product.

When trying to assemble and align the 2" hitch bar bolt holes with the underneath of the structure, they did not line up with the holes predrilled in the aluminium under support.

Had to adapt the product by drilling the holes bigger in line with the predrilled holes in the cast iron 2" hitch bar.

This cargo carrier was all it was advertised to be: light, easy to assemble (easy, but not fast - lots of little bolts), inexpensive, and ... did I say light? I mounted it on the back bumper of a Casita travel trailer, which is made of extremely light weight metal. The perimeter rails make it so you almost don't have to tie down your load. Good buy.

My Daughter recently became dependent on a wheelchair.I looked at all the options for weeks and finally decided on this for these reasons:
It is Light, I can lift it alone.
It doesn't interfer with the use or operation of my liftgate.
It has 7 inch sides which allow me to put coolers, boxes, yard sale finds in it and they ride smooth. I found a large PetCo Crate for my dog and with a simple bungee cord secured it.
The wheelchair sits nicely, is adequately secured, and stable.
The only thing it does I don't care for is it angles downward making it dip closer to the road and possibly drag.
For the price It is and excelleint choice.

I chose this rating because the carrier basket didn't fit the receiver hitch very well. When the basket was inserted into the receiver hitch the back of the basket hung quite lower than the front did. To sum it up, you could pick up the backof the basket and shake it up and down more than it should.

This is my 2nd hitch carrier, I did not have a good experience with the 1st one, in explanation it was a folding hitch and yes it did fold up but it compromised it's strength, I had a 240lbs generator and a 6gallon can of gasoline on it hooked to an rv bumper, on the way from Anchorage to Denali park it bent downward and I almost lost a $2000 dollar generator and fuel, this totally destroyed any confidence I had in the carrier, I sent it back and stayed away from them for years. This time I bought a regular no folding style. I am going to use it to carry fuel and hunting trophies from the field. It takes about 30minutes to put it together give or take if a 4yr old is helping. I put it and it works great, it is smaller than my last one, but I wanted the wteight more centered on this carrier. I paid about $114 with shipping and I consider it a decent price.
