Having read reviews on some of the other types (plastic base mainly) of color wheels being prone to tip over, I can say that this type is not prone in any way, shape or form to movement or tip over once set up and tightened down. Just set it up, angle it to the the desired position, tighten down the wing nuts that hold the unit in it's wire base, and it is rock steady and will be right where you put it.
Also nice is the automatic over heat shut off (not that it's needed very often). It's good to know that the unit will shut itself off long before it could ever become a fire hazard. After all, that was one of the two main reasons for the purchase of this unit. Growing up with these lights in the sixties, nostalgia was one of the reasons for purchase, and going back to a live tree was the other. Fear of fire from shorts, etc. on lighted live trees being a very real thing, this light showcases the tree very well with lots of silver and white ornaments in a completely safe fashion.
The only thing preventing a full five star rating is that the color wheel drive shaft has a tendency to unscrew itself from the motor drive shaft. Not a huge deal at all - it just requires stopping the unit now and again and screwing the two back together. It could be fixed, however, very easily by the manufacturer by either having the motor turn in the opposite direction, or using left hand threads on the drive shafts. As is, a piece of tape wrapped around the joint where the two shafts join seems to be a temporary fix, and the only one needed to make this unit completely trouble free.
