Product Description

New Artist Series guitars from Alvarez look stunning and come in a huge variety of shapes, colors and wood choices. All of their components are made of natural materials such as mother of pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments. But the magic really starts when you pick one up and play it. Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments. The solid ‘A’ grade Sitka spruce and cedar tops are hand selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. Our tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows us to cut them just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

From the Manufacturer

The Award Winning Artist Series

Artist Series is now “The Award Winning Artist Series” – winning competitions and receiving rave reviews in the States, Europe and around the world. It’s a truly designed line of guitars that stands tall and sounds sweet in the solid top guitar market.

Hand selected solid tops; forward shifted scalloped bracing, awesome tone and player experience.

The term “solid top” of course refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it does not necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Advanced Bracing System

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments. These components include our FST2M bracing system, bi-level bridge, real bone nut and great quality tone woods.

FSTM is a forward shifted X brace design. Both the X braces and asymmetric tone bars are scalloped. Moving the system forward allows for a larger soundboard, which is optimized with a solid maple bridge plate for both strength and energy.

Quality Construction

The solid ‘A’ grade Sitka spruce and cedar tops are hand selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. Our tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive. Dig in and they shout right back at you, treat them gently and they whisper and respond instantly to the lightest strum or pick.

Vast Range of Models

New Artist Series guitars look stunning and come in a huge variety of shapes, colors and wood choices from standard OM and Dreadnought models to more specialist instruments such as Baritone and Parlor. Each shape is also available in a left-handed version.

Acoustic electrics come with the SYS550 designed by B-BAND, a pro level EQ and pick up that reproduces the sound of the guitar very closely with great clarity. B-BAND use a patented under saddle electret film pick up which eliminates synthetic or processed sounds often heard with Piezo or other styles of pickup. The result is a very true, acoustic sound. SYS550 also has an accurate, backlit chromatic digital tuner.

Just got the ad60bk for Christmas. It is an impressive guitar especially when the price is considered. My son has an Alvarez and did a lot of research on quality before buying his. Alvarez is known for putting out quality guitars in the "entry" type price point and the ad60 is exceptional. My brother recently bought a $400 (lists for $665) epiphone that has a great tone. The ad60 (anywhere from $287 to $319 with a list of $449 IIRC) does not take a back seat to his epi in crispness, clarity, highs, or lows. I've read reviews in many places online that have reviewers claiming their ad60 is every bit as good as their high end $800+ Taylors, Martins etc. I have never owned or played guitars of that price range so can't comment based on my own use. I can say I browsed some guitar shops and had sales staff pull $800-$1000 guitars down and demo them for me along with the alvarez. Can't say I heard much of difference and certainly not $500-$700 worth. Maybe a professional musician can?

Out of the box the ad60 plays great, just needed to be tuned and I was ready to go. The action of the ad60 is very low and is the easiest acoustic I have ever used to make bar chords. It is almost as easy my epi les paul and that guitar is easy to bar. Despite the low action there are no strings ringing out. No additional set up is required (at least with the guitar I received).

It is a Christmas gift but for clarity it is one I selected. Son knew I wanted guitar but wasn't going to select it for me. Having said that I wasn't thrilled with the all black ad60bk but went with it as it was ~$30 cheaper than a "classic" or "sunburst". Also the ad60 only has an inlay on the 12th fret with the rest of the fret board devoid of "dots".
