5.0 out of 5 stars Alvin's finally made it to DVD with 2 Christmas episodes and one extra!
This one has 3 episodes, with the first being the classic early 80's Xmas Special, A Chipmunk Christmas. This is the one where Alvin gives up his prize harmonica to a sick boy for Christmas, then is in a bind because Dave booked them at Carnegie Hall and now he doesn't have it to play.

The other 2 episodes are from the late 80's TV show, The Chipmunks...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not What I thought It was
When I purchased this dvd I expected to receive the older cartoon version of the chipmunks singing Christmas songs. Instead I got the 2008 computer animated version. What a disappointment.

The other 2 episodes are from the late 80's TV show, The Chipmunks. The first is named Merry Christmas Mr. Carroll, and I believe it is one in the same as the VHS release a while back called Alvin's Christmas Carol. It is excatly that, Alvin is being stingy and makes up a huge Christmas list, and then is taught the meaning of Christmas by 3 ghosts.

The last episode, Dave's Wonderful Life, is in the spirit of Christmas and the story of It's A Wonderful Life, however there isn't really anthing festive or Christmasy depicted.

A must have for the 2 Xmas episodes, escpecially the first one, where we get the classic holiday tune, The Chipmunk Song!

This DVD is quite refreshing. Not only does it have the 1980 classic A Chipmunk Christmas, but it has two Christmas episodes from the Chipmunk series, doing their versions of a Christmas Carol and It's A Wonderful Life in their own cute way. A great addition to any Christmas collection.

The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is I'm a little disappointed there were no special features on this DVD. Alvin has been a great addition to Christmas ever since the release of that classic song "The Chipmunk Song" (1958). Some things on that could have been added. But I'm still glad to have Alvin and the Chipmunks as part of my Christmas.

This was one of my all-time favorite Christmas movies growing up. This is a great DVD set. The DVD contains the original Christmas movie and two other Chipmunk episodes as well as the Chipmunks Christmas CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice to Own a Classic, January 27, 2007
This review is from: Alvin and the Chipmunks - A Chipmunk Christmas (25th Anniversary Special Collector's Edition) (DVD)
This DVD collection includes the classic 30-minute story, plus two stories from the Chipmunks TV series. The 25th Anniversay set also includes an audio CD with the most popular Chipmunks Christmas songs. It's great to own a classic I can share with generations to come.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Alvin Snow, July 21, 2006
The tiny icon on the package gave me hope that The Chipmunk Song might be the version from the '60s The Alvin Show. But no. Along with the too-cute chipmunks from the '80s revival cartoon featured in A Chipmunk Christmas are two episodes from the later DIC spin-off which, if anything, are even more sentimental and schmaltzy.

A Chipmunk Christmas has an OK, warm, fuzzy holiday-themed plot that may enable many viewers to overlook the bland new chipmunks. But the DIC 'toons, while keeping the one great thing about the '80s 'toon, the great opening theme song, changes the visuals accompanying it. The opening graphics of the original perfectly underscore the Alvinish tone of the song: "It's been a while, but we're back in style." But the DIC opening goes from bland to blander.

All of which makes this viewer long all the more for the '60s The Alvin Show to make it to DVD. Bits of this UPA-influenced graphically styled show were released on a VHS Alvin Sing-a-long tape through Buena Vista (Disney). Bits also appeared on Nickelodeon's excellent Wienerville Show hosted by Mark Wiener (which I also hope comes out on DVD). I join fans everywhere calling for more of Alllllviiin!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good DVD..., October 23, 2006
By
Kiersten's Grandma (Sheboygan, WI United States) - See all my reviews
We bought this DVD mainly for Kiersten(our three year old granddaughter)to watch. We were not planning on watching it till closer to Christmas but she found it and HAD to watch it.It is 66 minutes long. There are three episodes.A Chipmunk Christmas is about Alvin giving his prized harmonica to a sick little boy,but Dave has booked them to play on Christmas Eve at Carnegie Hall and now Alvin has no harmonica. If I tell anymore,it'll ruin the surprise,so just watch this one.Merry Christmas Mr.Carroll is about a VERY GREEDY Alvin who is visted by three Christmas ghosts,PAST,PRESENT and FUTURE played by Dave,Theodore and Simon.Kiersten asked why Dave(who plays Ghost of Christmas Past)looked so grouchy.Dave's Wonderful Life is not a holiday episode as it takes place in the summer on this DVD,but is OK.There are several songs done on this DVD,with The Chipmunk Song probably being the best. There were just a few things I found a bit odd on this tape.At the beginning it appeared they lived in a warm climate(a man in a swimming pool, another planting flowers, etc)but by the end of the episode they had snow. And poor Theodore, they have him riding a pink bicycle and wearing pink earmuffs.Anyhow it is still worth buying.Amazon lists it at $12.99,we bought it at Target for $9.99.
