I am an avid fan of the chipmunks. I was there when they first came out. I have the original 45's of The Witch Doctor, The Bird Sitting On My head which are really not the Chipmunks, but I have Alvins Harmonica and The christmas Song and Ragtime Cowboy Joe. I was disappointed when I listened to the first few songs on this album. They aren't the original recordings. I think that should be mentioned. I do have the Greatest HIts of the Chipmunks which are the originals, but they put only 10 or 11 songs on the cd and non of the David Seville songs. I know the original recordings are on Liberty records. I'm not sure if they are still around, but someone must have the original tapes. Lets get the original recordings on cd and not just 10 songs. I would definately get the Grestest hits with the 10 songs. At least they are the originals.

All I have to say when I first put this CD in I had high expectations that I thought Alvin and the boys could not meet, but after cranking up track one I knew I was on the fast track to musci heaven. These guys hit all the notes and did all my favorites on this album. If I was not 25, not living in my mothers basement, and actually had something other than and FM/AM radio in my car I would let the world here this album. Keep on truckin' Chipmunks!

I bought this for my kids because I knew they would love these songs just as I did. Forget them! I love it! There is NOTHING like the Chipmunks and never will be again. The Christmas song is worth the price alone. Don't think about it. Just get it.

After years of being submerged with the 80s version of the Chipmunks, it was quite refreshing to take a step back nearly four decades to hear the original recordings that made the quirky trio so popular to begin with. The recordings are crystal-clear, considering their age, and the selections are commendable. Sadly, there is so much more in the Chipmunk catalog that Capitol records is keeping locked up, not to mention the works of David Seville (a.k.a. Chipmunk creator Ross Bagdasarian, Sr.). Hearing such rare nuggets like "Chipmunk Fun," "I Wish I Had a Horse," and "Japanese Banana" alongside classics like "The Chipmunk Song" and "The Witch Doctor" made for some interesting contrasts. Pity that Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. died before watching his trio get a their well-deserved rebirth in the 80s (Bagdasarian died of a heart attack at age 52 on January 16, 1972). And, no one can blurt out "ALVIN!" quite like the late Mr. Bagdasarian, Sr., despite his son's noble, though feeble, attempts. The mock interview at the end of the album does offer a great deal of insight into the Chipmunk history. It is interesting to note the change in technology over the years, as astute listeners will notice a difference in the speaking style of the old Chipmunks vs. the Alvin found in the closing interview. No doubt, the Chipmunks popularity is no fluke, and this dip into the past only confirms their longevity. Next could be "The Alvin Show" remastered on DVD. And a comprehensive Chipmunk boxed set, perhaps? I don't see why not. For now, this disc will succesfully feed the frenzied until further notice from Capitol and Mr. Bagdasarian, Jr.

I'm a old Chipmunk fan from when I watched their 1980's saturday morning show. I only just recently recovered them. I still love their music, but this CD only contains their early but still good songs. I prefer the Chipmunk's newer stuff, which is why I only gave this one four stars. It's still a great introduction to the music and contains songs that are impossable to get on CD otherwise. The ending interview is particulary enlighting and I learned many facts I did not know before. A nice buy overall.

It all started when i heard one of their christmas songs on the radio, and soon i was hooked. Their high pitched voices and cute appearance make their CDs great gifts for all ages. Plus, unlike some of the music kids listen to now, all of the songs' messages are positive and funny. I have two CDs of Alvin's music and i listen to them all the time!!!

Just as the sense of smell can catapult you back in time, so can the sense of hearing. And hearing these wonderful original recordings of Alvin & the Chipmunks was pure joy. Pay dirt. I discovered The Alvin Show at the young age of five back in the early 1960's. I've waited many years but finally the old music is coming out of the vaults. This CD features not only traditional favorites such as Witch Doctor and The Chipmunk Song, but also rare cuts like Japanese Banana, the opening and closing themes and Chipmunk Fun, but also my favorite I Wish I Could Speak French. What a great find for a guy who wishes he could find all of his favorite nostolgic original soundtrack music. Even the Chipmunks rendition of America The Beautiful struck a famililar chord. Although I've heard or sung that song hundreds of times, I'll bet I heard it first on The Alvin Show. I sure wish I had all the original Chipmunk music, as well as the original cartoon soundtrtack music. Remember that woman who the Chipmunks drove crazy..."Don't you just love a baby, a baby...." I guess I want it all. Is that so bad? How 'bout it Capitol Records? At least start releasing the '60s cartoons on DVD. Imagine that! All the music and Clyde Crashcup besides. Actually there is The Chipmunks Sing Alongs licensed from CEMA...it's a good start. Thanks Capitol Records John Mark

What can I say...Alvin was my first love...I had all the dolls, records, even the glasses from Pizza Hut. Anyway...I actually have a question. Does anyone know the name of the Chipmunk CD with "I'm Bad" and "Leader of the pack" on it. It was my most beloved possession when I was small, and it got RUN OVER. I LOVE the Cd and the Chipmunks! they brought back so many memories of my childhood. I hope the Chipmunks' marketers can find ways to reach today's children and give the Chipmunks the relevance they deserve, in a new era.

The cd is fantastic, they remain as skweeky! What I was looking for though, was most of the songs they sing on the show. I Love it, I Love it, I Love it!! mmmmmua!!!Magnificent!
