This is the coolest tool. So far I have used it to find the shortest distance on my regular trips. Some of my travels are not direct main road routs and using the map wheel has cut up to 10 miles off some of my "back road" travels. Its even a fun "final word" when several people say they know the shortest rout. This tool can be set up to measure any distance on any map. I can also see it as a blue print reading tool - 1 inch equals 1 foot (mile)or any scaleing applacation. Its quick, easy and more versital than map quest. Jim

I'm a civil engineer and when I pull this item out of mi bag in a meeting in which I was trying to make a point over a blueprint to some colleges. The just had to give me the reason because was showed right there that the distances where wrong. That's how I saved my company of making a serious I probably very expensive mistake.

I don't give the fifth star because I had understood that there are other items like this one whit more helpful options. But without a doubt the price an utility of this item its great.

This map wheel works quite well. We've used it on multiple maps and found it to be easily configurable for different map scales. Five stars would probably be accurate, but it's also easy to accidentally press the buttons on the back of the device. Also, the wheel size can be cumbersome on some maps - where small, tight turns are required. However, these cons are very slight and acceptable and all in all, I would definitely recommend this product. It's a good value for the money and quick and easy to use.

I found the map wheel to be very versatile as well as easy to use. The directions that come with the map wheel make it easy to adapt to a variety of maps. I have used it while planning out hiking trips and plan to use it in my Earth Science classes when I begin teaching the unit on mapping.

Worst $40 ever spent at Amazon. LCD readout erratic and illegible even after replacing batteries. I just threw product in the waste basket.

Maybe I'm slow to understand the info sheet, but I think more information would make this item easier to use.

I didn't know this thing existed. The only useful invention idea I've ever had is a map measurer, but these guys invented it first. Ah well, I'm too lazy to have ever built one anyway. Good going, map pen inventor whizzes.
