I am a professional (geologist) who has always had difficulty in writing neatly. I first used a draftmatic pencil in college in a cartography class and was amazed at what a difference a heavy, solid drafting pencil could make; It helps my hand feel steadier on the page.

This isn't like the cheap, plastic, mechanical pencils in the office supply bins. It has a good, solid, tactile "feel". And I have found that I write more neatly, (and look way cooler) using the 0.9mm draftmatic. I tried it on my 10-year-old son recently, and it made a huge difference for him too. The 0.9mm is solid, it makes for readable, bold, printing. 0.5mm, and 0.7mm are nice too, but the 0.9mm is my first choice every time.

I do all my drafting on Autocad these days, but I still swear by the 0.9mm Draftmatic as my day-to-day writing utensil.

I'm a mechanical drafter/designer and still draw some stuff by hand to keep in practice. I was looking for a stylish 0.9mm pencil for thicker lines. This pencil looks good and the knurling gives it a secure feel in your hand but... it has a spring loaded tip that will not allow you to apply extra pressure on the tip when you need heavy weight lines. So, it's back to the bland yellow Pentel for me. Bottom-line: NOT recommended for serious drafting.

Essentially the Draft/Matic Pencil is a good choice for anyone looking for a mech pencil. It comes in different size leads and allows you to keep track of which shade of lead you have in it. The weight is good and it's mechanically sound. I recommend it.

The body of this pencil is plastic but its OK because its tough and the pencil probably doesn't need the extra wight to it. This is defiantly my favorite mechanical pencil in my pouch. i use it everyday for school work and some sketches for art. the thick lead doesn't make it the best sketching pencil but I still like to sketch with it. I can see myself using this for a very long time. great product Alvin thanks.

First, I'm not a professional draftsman. However, I do a lot of writing and I LOVE this fine writing instrument. It is a pleasure to use and it's easy to fix. I have several of them, in several sizes. I highly recommend them.

I know this is a drafting pencil and drafting is the one thing I dont use this pencil for. I really liked the design and decided to get it and thats pretty much the only reason. I mainly use this for school related work. I enjoy the thicker lead and the way it writes with the pentel leads. Very smooth. It has a very good over all construction and feels really good in the hand I could write with it all day. If you are considering this product for general writing I would recommend it, cant say much about drafting or other uses.

Excellent pencil, smooth writing, non-slip grip, lead hardness indicator twirls, and eraser is too small for most tasks, but it is easily supplemented. Earlier models had a fine steel wire embedded in the eraser to assist in freeing lead jams, this pencil does not have that wire. Great pencil for writing, not for erasing.
