Editorial Reviews

About the Author

First, Lenore Look, is afraid of spider babies, scary dreams, creepy old houses, and roller coasters. Second, she's the author of the Ruby Lu series. Ruby Lu, Brave and True was named an ALA-ALSC Notable Children’s Book and Ruby Lu, Empress of Everything, also an ALA-ALSC Notable Children’s Book, was deemed “exuberant” in a School Library Journal starred review and received a Gryphon Honor. The third thing you should know about Lenore is that she lives in New Jersey near a very scary bridge.

I have a son and a daughter in elementary school. They both enjoy the antics of Alvin. I bought it in audio book form to listen to in the car for long trips. Write more. We love them.

Format: Audio CD
Alvin Ho Book One tells of a little boy who is able to talk at home and at friends' houses, but for some reason he can't bring himself to speak at school. He also has a fear of just about everything. Although Alvin has a good voice. He's easy to follow and seemingly does normal boy things for the most part, I thought he was a little "too quirky." I did like having a character of a different ethnicity than most of the chapter book series out there. I brought new culture and language to my children as we listened to the audio book. I say give it a try, but personally I'm not up to reading more about what Alvin is afraid of...there's just to many. I'm surprised he makes it out the house. Lol.
