Book Description

She's sworn off weddings…

After two failed relationships and six stints as a bridesmaid, Stephanie Ludlow is convinced she’s man-poison. So when her hormones point due south to her sexy—but not so charming—new landlord, she can't help the sparks that fly. It’s a good thing she’s declared a strict "no sex" policy, because Mike Brubaker might as well have “it’s not happening” tattooed across his delectable chest.

He's sworn off love…

Spurned single dad Mike has learned the hard way women are the source of all evil and should be avoided at any cost. And that definitely includes his gorgeous new tenant. But when they're thrown together in the wedding party from hell, both will stop at nothing to fight the heat building between them. Giving in is not an option for either of them.

May the best man—or woman—win.

I always love a good, old-fashioned contemporary romance novel and this one fits the bill perfectly. Take who people who have some serious emotional baggage and bad luck with relationships, Stephanie and Mike, and a tempting situation (living together in the same house), an instant attraction (not the unbelievable kind, but the good, lusty kind) and you've got a fun read. I felt like Cindi had just the right amount of fun, light-hearted scenes and intense, serious ones. Nowadays, it's hard not to meet someone doesn't have some kind of baggage like a marriage that didn't work out, kids, or trust issues, and Cindi plays on that well with her characters. But she also lets you believe in the power of love and keeps things sweet with the newlyweds and with hope that Stephanie and Mike can find love despite their pasts.

What's a good romance novel without some nookie, am I right?! Cindi does a great job at writing those intimate scenes where it doesn't get too tacky, but it remains quite steamy and HOT. You can definitely feel the attraction these two characters have for each other right from the start, and I like that it evolves from that into real love. Although much of it was pretty predictable, it didn't deter me from reading on and enjoying the book. I liked Cindi's writing style and her characters were great. The parts pertaining to actually being a bridesmaid, especially about the dresses, was hilarious and reminded me of how my friends felt when they had to be apart of my wedding (although I thought I chose cute dresses, lol).
It was a very short and fun read, something to throw in between reading those serious fantasy/paranormal reads, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Read June 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I've decided it had to be fate, I had just requested Always a Bridesmaid to review and then I hopped over to Guilty Pleasures to find an interview with the author. Although Cindi has 50 published books, she is a new to be author and I'm happy to say I'll be checking out her other books soon.

Always a Bridesmaid is the story of two people who have loved and lost. For Stephanie not only romantically but also when her Mom up and left her and her dad when she was 16. I don't think even she realized how much that affected her. Mike on the other hand was married. He's a single Dad with shared custody and trying to do what's best for his son. He's somewhat cynical about marriage and commitment and doesn't realize how much this affects him day in and day out and how other people see him.

Stephanie is a grad student who also works for her Dad. She's independent, capable, and determined not to let anything or anyone get in the way of her goals. Mike owns a construction firm, he's comes across as somewhat of a jerk but in reality he's insecure. Neither of them are prepared for the sparks that fly when they meet.

After a couple of impromptu kisses, these two decide that they need to keep their distance. They eventually give in to the attraction but because of Mike's son, Ryan, they keep their relationship somewhat hidden. Add in Mike's ex-wife, her new boyfriend, Stephanie's dad and his lady friend, and their housemates and well....hidden is easier said than done.

This is a very well thought out and well written story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The entire cast of characters and their feelings were believable. I completely understood why they did the things they did. Even though they are somewhat damaged, Stephanie and Mike are quite likeable and their relationship interesting. The supporting cast offered great variety and perspective, something you don't always get in a romance novel. Always a Bridesmaid is a charming book that just proves no matter what you think you want in life, things change and sometimes change is good, really good!

Oh la la la... I wanted to be be Stephanie in this story! Mike is dead sexy and a great father. So while Stephanie and Mike debated whether or not it was a good time for them to be in a relationship I wanted to barge in and b-slap Stephanie (no offense really, just needed the distraction) and drag Mike out by his man parts to my car for a little one on one time. Great story, perfect writing, lovable characters, and one grade A quality beef what's not to like?
Overall this was a great read, go buy it immediately. Then come back and tell us who your "Mike" is. We really want to know, comment on Passionate Book Divas dot com. I also have an Interview from the author there!

More About the Author

Cindi Myers became one of the most popular people in eighth grade when she and her best friend wrote a torrid historical romance and circulated it among their peers. Fame was short-lived, however; the English teacher confiscated the manuscript and advised her to concentrate on learning to properly diagram a sentence. From this humbling beginning, she has gone on to write more than three dozen novels that have been translated into more than a dozen languages and distributed all over the world. Her books have been praised for their emotion, humor and realistic characters. She writes stories about relationships that matter, whether the subject is friendship, families, or the love between a man and a woman.
