Always Chasing Rainbows (The Young Judy Garland), June 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Always Chasing Rainbows (Audio CD)
Always Chasing Rainbows has something for everyone. I am a huge fan of Judy Garland, especially her singing voice. You have your slow, romantic songs, your faster paced dance songs, and of course, Over the Rainbow. One of my favorites is It Never Rains But What It Pours, because I think everybody can relate to it some time or another. Wether you are in the mood for something slow, or something up beat and fun, this cd has it all. I would absolutely recommend it to any and every Judy Garland fan.

A Fun Ride Down Memory Lane, January 10, 2010
Since I'm rather partial to classical music, I've mentioned this title song from Judy's CD several reviews earlier as the center piece of one of Chopin's Improptu Fanatsie, on the
Chopin: The Complete Nocturnes And Impromptus
At that time, I couldn't locate the melody on Amazon, although it's been recorded in the not so distant past by Barbara Streisand, Alice Cooper, Tony Bennet, and of course Judy Garland. Which gets closer to posing the question of what's so unique about this recording?
That particular song is preserved in better quality, I believe, by her recording,
Chasing Rainbows
Which also includes greats like "Smile" (though your heart is aching) and "I Saw A Man Who Danced With His Own Wife (in Chicago)", "They Can't Take That Away From Me", and "Battle Hym Of The Republic." All studio mastered, non-stereo.
Perhaps the fact this album I'm reviewing is so incredibly raw Judy is the best selling point I could emphasize. You may already know that she belts out a tune without any need of a microphone. This track includes movie versions of several songs. It's the genuine youthful 'Dorothy' singing "Over The Rainbow" and "The Trolley Song."
There are several other movie songs on this track which I thoroughly enjoy. Take, "Singing In The Rain" for instance, or "Embracable You." And who hasn't ever heard the Irish ballad, "Danny Boy." It's one song I've heard so often, I nearly detest it. Judy changed my mind about "Danny Boy." Of all the versions I've ever heard sung, she's the only one I can recommend as someone who really 'gets' it, I mean, that it's a truly sad song. A song about someone going away to war, maybe never to return, or maybe to return to find her already having died. Judy really 'sings' it for all it's worth!
