Brilliant, beautiful, melodic pop rock. It's not the most original stuff you'll hear, or the most lyrically innovative, but there's something sincere and honest about the sound that elevates it above most bands. Jeff Martin's voice is awesome, flowing from laid back and mellow, to huge emotional surges, but never sounding whiny or strained. The piano is also used to good effect, adding touches of softness and beauty to the texture of the songs. "Second Place Victory" is a rediculously amazing song. Overall this CD is a great debut, full of easy to listen to, radio-friendly songs. Fans of Waking Ashland, Dashboard Confessional, Mae, and Something Corporate will love it. Everyone else will like it alot :)

The most beautiful album ever put together,

The first song i heard of This Day and Age was Second Place Victory. Hearing the first three words of that song brought me in. I had to hear the rest of the album. When i heard all of the other songs on the album it blew me away. I have not stopped listening to this album since i first heard them.

If you've been letdown or put off by the million and one christian emo bands on today's emotional rock scene, or the lack of originality that comes with today's victory/drive-thru records, then I have a band for you; This Day And Age. Hailing from 111, "Always Leave The Ground" combines the Instrumental melodies of Something corporate's "Leaving through the window" in with the lyrically honesty of 3 doors down's "Seventeen days". The end result is an album that will be stuck in your head, and planted in your heart for days on end. For fans of Something Corporate or The Starting Line.

'This Day & Age' is a group that will quickly develope fans and a following. I purchased this CD on whim and I am glad I did. This is Pop Rock with some Coldplay flavour mixed into the band. I loved the cover art of the album and think this is a nice clean almost flawless debut by this band. There are 13 songs on this CD and all the songs are great listening with beautiful guitar play mixed with bass and piano moments. The songs are touching and sung by the lead vocalist with a emotional vigour. The songs that stand out in this release are 'Sometimes' a nice melodical song but a tad too short, could of gone longer. 'Second Place Victory' a beautiful song almost sung in a rhapsody. Another nice song is 'The Day We Started' as well as 'Clouds & Skyscrapers'. I hope the band goes onto better and bigger things. Well done.

This Day and Age is (sadly) no longer with us. And because of that I cherish this album even more. Much to my dismay, I have only been a fan for a little over a year. I heard TD&A on a sampler which came with The Spill Canvas's CD One Fell Swoop, and I was hooked. The next pay day I went out and bought this CD. It's simply brilliant. They are all intelligent boys and one can easily tell from their lyrics and music that this is not your average indie rock band. More akin to Mae then they are to The Spill Canvas, TD&A is more mellow than they are rockers. Though they can rock with the best in their genre, and for the most part, better ("Hourglass" "A New Focus"). Not to be cliché, but the word that comes to mind when I think of This Day and Age is "lush." It's been described as piano-driven pop rock ("Second Place Victory" "Long Walk Home"), but don't confuse them for Jack's Mannequin. And if by chance you are a fan of their second album The Bell and The Hammer, and wondering if this CD is just as good, I will be honest: no. It is more on the edge of the pop-punk spectrum at this point in their careers ("Seven-Eighty" "The Day We Started"), and it lacks some of the beauty and brilliance of their second full-length, but it is a solid album and would/should be enjoyed by any lovers of smart, emotional indie rock. Basically, if you liked such bands like Mae, Copeland, or Acceptance, you should fall in love with This Day & Age. And, hey, better late than never.

Very Memorable Debut,

Light pop-rock, as a genre, has a strong tendency towards sameness and the easily forgettable. This Day & Age manages to dodge both these trends. Though their sound can easily be likened to the upbeat, inoffensive rock of bands like Slow Coming Day and Long Since Forgotten, "...Always Leave The Ground" is executed with a slick precision that defies comparison. Songs like "Second Place Victory" (which features a breathtakingly beautiful piano intro) and "The Day We Started" had me singing along by the second listen, already captivated by the lyrics and melodies. The guitar riffs are impeccably catchy and beautiful, and reel you in immediately.
This album is a bit hard to find but more than worth the effort.

This is a truly romantic album from beginning to end. You fall in and lose love and get it back in the end. Powerful music combined with poetic lyrics-I dare you not to love this album.

This is an amazingly talented and creative band that simply has not recieved the mainstream success that they deserve. Upbeat, moving, creative pop rock with great lyrics...this is as good as it gets for fans of this kind of music. The piano mixed with guitar is done to near perfection and the singer's voice is captivating. It is a true shame that this band recently broke up...
