Book Description

September 2, 2008 Signet Eclipse
Geralyn Dawson moves to the next level of sophisticated romantic suspense in the tradition of Jayne Ann Krentz.

When ex-Military Intelligence officer Mark Callahan discovers that someone is murdering members of his former unit, he must join forces with the only team member more dangerous than himself—his estranged wife, Annabelle Monroe.

A private investigator, Annabelle would rather trade in her gun for a slingshot than partner with Mark. But she can’t deny her old loyalties—or the sudden threat to their safety. So together, she and Mark will follow the bloody trail of a killer, only to come face-to- face with betrayal—and an overpowering desire...

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Dawson (Never Say Never) introduces two sexy and evenly matched ex–military ops heroes, Mark Callahan and Annabelle Monroe, in this heart-pounding romantic thriller. After a short-lived marriage and months of estrangement, Mark and Annabelle finally divorce, only to be reunited unexpectedly when an old friend, a member of their covert ops unit, is murdered. When they discover that multiple members of their unit have died mysterious deaths, they are determined to find the murderer before he can strike again. Explicit love scenes scorch the pages as their relationship reignites and Mark comes to terms with dark secrets from his past. While the conclusion is somewhat predictable, it alludes to the possibility of a sequel featuring this tough, high-energy duo. (Sept.)

From Booklist

*Starred Review* Hold on to your hats as reclusive Mark Callahan comes face-to-face with his wife, Annabelle Monroe, while on assignment. The surprise meeting takes place as Mark and his brothers invade the Hawaiian home of a dangerous pornographer. Mark is there to rescue a Texas neighbor; Annabelle is providing security for a man on Mark’s most-wanted list—Radovanvic—a Croatian mafia kingpin whom Mark blames for his youngest brother’s death. They both escape only to hurt each other by deciding to divorce. As Annabelle tries to let go of Mark and vice versa, a new threat arises. Someone is trying to kill all the members of their former military unit, “The Fixers,” bringing Mark and Annabelle together to struggle against bloodshed and their undeniable mutual attraction. Dawson takes her Callahan brothers series (Never Say Never, 2007; Give Him the Slip, 2006) to another level in this fast-paced, action-packed, intense romance as irresistible leading characters battle evil while trying to reconcile their personal problems. Terrific fun. --Patty Engelmann

3.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced mystery suspense thriller with a little romance, July 26, 2010

This review is from: Always Look Twice (Signet Eclipse) (Paperback)
We met Mark Callahan in the earlier books in the series. He is one of the Callahan brothers, sons of Branch, and a former military squad leader. We learned in a previous book that he had been secretly married and his wife had his baby, but they were killed. In this book, we learn that he secretly married again to Anabelle, a former squad member but that they are estranged. They work together to track down a killer targeting their squad members.

The first half of the book was pretty good, but it didn't pull me in as well as the earlier books. The last half was full of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages--really great! I liked the surprises uncovered towards the end. I enjoy most of the characters in this series, with the exception of Mark the lead character in this book. He was just too much of a jerk and so much of his angst could have been avoided if he'd just communicate a little better. The romance parts of this book I had a hard time buying. Annabelle was such a sharp, successful, strong character I just didn't see her pining away for Mark for so long or putting up with his crap.

Overall I really enjoy the Callahan series and look forward to reading the next book. This was the weakest book so far in the series (good not great), but still entertaining and worth reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Always Look Twice, May 9, 2009
This review is from: Always Look Twice (Signet Eclipse) (Paperback)
When members of his former unit are murdered Mark Callahan is forced to work with his ex-wife in order to protect her and the remaining members. Mark had divorced Annabelle because he couldn't give her what she needed, a family and his heart. Now as a killer sets Annabelle in his sights, Mark finally has to face his past in order to have a future.

I have to say, when I read the other books of this series which were about Mark's brothers, I about died wanting Mark's story. But once I started reading it, I was disappointed. It just wasn't as good in the romance department. Yes, Always Look Twice, has the pulse pounding adventure and I love a kick butt heroine and a tortured hero, but Mark is so tied up in his past that even when his past is finally resolved, I didn't see how any woman, and especially one so kick butt as Annabelle, could feel anything but second choice. Readers should definitely pick up the first two books in this series Never Say Never and Give Him the Slip, and I will be impatiently waiting for the final brother's, John, book. However I have to say that Always Look Twice just left me somewhat unsatisfied.
