5.0 out of 5 stars Shirley's solo album was just phenomenal!, May 25, 2004

Like Jean Carne's "Closer Than Close" and Phyllis Hyman's "Living All Alone" albums (both also from 1986),this fine album serves as an excellent example of the best that 1980s Philly Soul had to offer. Shirley gives some spellbinding performances on the lush Quiet Storm ballads "She Knew About Me","Do You Get Enough Love?", "Breaking Up" and the haunting "Last Night I Needed Somebody" while the sizzling-hot dance track "Surrender" and the finger-popping, finger-snapping title track were among the grooviest dance hits of their time. "Always In The Mood" was just as good as anything Shirley recorded with her sisters (The Jones Girls).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD from A Talented Lady, February 1, 2008

"Always In The Mood" is one of my favorite CDs from the 1980s. On her lone domestic solo release, Shirley shines on almost every track. Her strong points, however, are ballads, as witnessed on "Do You Get Enough Love", which became a number one song on The Billboard Black Singles (R&B) Chart. Jones gives another stellar performance on the second single, "Last Night I Needed It Somebody", which failed to pack the same punch on the charts. Other standouts include "Breaking Up" and the uptempo tunes "Surrender" and "Caught Me With My Guard Down". Jones was recording a follow-up album scheduled for release in the late 80's but it was never issued. Instead, a CD of all new material entitled "With You" was issued in the U.K. in 1994.
