By AJ Smith (Lathrup Village, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Always (Audio CD)
I really love this cd. This cd gets played day and night, night and day at my home, in my car, at work. I have given many friends this cd as a gift. This cd is the best of all of his. Every cut is inspiring, superb, and just beautiful music. I have never found a artist that plays that well on every song, and continuously from cd to cd like Nelson. Nelson's music is the best smooth jazz music that I own in my collection. HIS MUSIC IS SOLID GOLD, PLATINUM and TITANIUM!!!

Mr. Flute Himself,
By rtaction@gte.net (Missouri City, Tx) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Always (Audio CD)
I am a true Nelson Rangell fan from the heart. He plays technically and with precission. His sax play is very good and No he his not a David Sanborn sound a like as some critics would say. He has his own sound and style if you listen carefully. One thing I would like for him to do is to make a all FLUTE CD. This guys flute play is impecable. His trills and texture and tone are of the best quality I have ever heard from a jazz flutest besides Hubert Laws ("IN THE LAND OF PASSOIN" CD which I can't find anywhere). I would very much like for Nelson to do an ALL FLUTE CD someday. Once a gain Mr. Flute Himself just blows me away when every flute song that he plays.

A World In Its Own,
By
This review is from: Always (Audio CD)
To enter the world of Always is to step away from the chaos of everyday life and enter a unique place of master craftsmanship and superior production. It's a real shame that Nelson Rangell isn't placed into the higher echelon of mainstream artists like Boney James, Dave Koz, or Gerald Albright. In Always, Rangell not only spawned one of the greatest contemporary jazz radio songs ever in "The Way To You", but he even equaled it in pure contemporary power with "A Little Somethin'". And although I like the more funky tunes, I even enjoyed his flute songs, the better of them being "The Mystery of Hearts". However, the best thing about this CD is that you can turn it on and enjoy it from beginning to end. You may enjoy some songs more than others, but those songs you do like are sure to become amongst the favorite in your collection. Do not miss this chance to experience contemporary jazz at its best.
