Book Description

Fulfilling a favor and executing a business plan, Luke Dexter arrives at Dallas’ Sybarite Club for a one-night stand. He never imagined he’d come face to face with the woman he left behind a decade earlier.

Rebecca Rainier fell in love with Luke Dexter in high school and was crushed when he dumped her to join the Marines after 9/11. Set up on a 1Night Stand by her business partner, nothing could prepare Rebecca for who her date is.

Can Luke and Rebecca bridge the pain of a decade-long abandonment, in one cold Texas night?

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The story itself is stellar and well worth the time to read." - Night Owl Romance.

"I don't know how she does it, but Ms. Long has mastered the art of the short story -- her characters leap off the page and she pulls you into the story so quickly that you are fully invested in the outcome within a matter of pages. I've read many of the 1NightStand and Always a Marine stories and always come back for more. Don't miss ONCE HER MAN, ALWAYS HER MAN -- you won't be sorry!!" -Fresh Fiction

3.0 out of 5 stars Once Her Man August 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I love second chance romance stories and Once Her Man Always Her Man definitely fits the bill. Luke and Rebecca were high school sweethearts. Everything in their lives were perfect until 9/11 happened. Luke joins the Marines and leaves Rebecca behind, heartbroken. Ten years later, Luke returns and realizes that his feelings for Rebecca never faded.

I thought that Luke and Rebecca's story was sweet, poignant and sexy. I liked how despite this being a novella, the author was able to provide the background information about their relationship without feeling like we missed out on any of the emotional connection that they had as teenagers.

I enjoyed Once Her Man and felt connected to the characters. I am definitely interested in reading the next novella in this series.

Once Her Man, Always Her Man
Reviewed by Francesca & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog

I think technically this book was intended to be classified as an erotica story, being that it's part of the 1 Night Stand series. However, the story lacked the ummmm pre-requisites of that for me. However it was a sweet story of high school sweethearts who were separated and then found each other again.

I always enjoy a second chance story. Everything was going well for me here. Rebecca was being fixed up with the 1 Night Stand service for a night of hot passion. Luke had recently gotten back in town (or close to town) after his military service and had agreed to use the 1 Night Stand service as the rest of his team members.

Neither one knowing that the person they would find was their high school sweetheart. Luke had left Rebecca when he enlisted thinking it would be unfair to force her to wait for him while he was in danger. She deserved to live her life.

Except she never did. And here's my issue with this story and why I took a couple of stars off. Rebecca has been waiting for Luke since he left. She never lost hope that he would come back for her. And I mean waiting in every sense of the word. So it was hard for me to understand how she found herself on a date with the 1 Night Stand service. It didn't make any sense.

However, I enjoyed the authors' writing and I am looking forward to see what comes next for the rest of Luke's military friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blind Date Leads To Second Chance At Romance May 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
It always amazes me when, in just a few pages, an author can grab my attention, make me love her characters and tug at my heart with her storytelling. I was bowled over by this story of second chance romance between one-time high school sweethearts.

Luke Dexter has returned home after a decade of doing his patriotic duty. He and his men make a pact to do something normal to help adjust to being out of the service so they all sign up for Madam Eve's 1 Night Stand dating service. Madam Eve sends him a cryptic email that not only tells him where to meet his date, but speaks of second chances. It all makes sense when the gorgeous woman in the green dress waiting for him at the bar is Rebecca Rainier, the childhood sweetheart that he broke her heart when he left her. This is his chance to make things more than right.

Becca has agreed to humor her business partner who has asked so little of her in the past by going on a date before she starts in on her next event planning job. She is now successful and owner of her own business, but her broken dreams from the past keep interfering with her ability to be in a relationship. And now, out of that past and into the bar walks the boy of her girlhood dreams. He hurt her so badly and one look at him tells her that she isn't over him and he is capable of breaking her healed heart all over again.

Naturally, because it is a short story, things get right to it. I like how there is an introduction to the characters and the issue between them after a dip into the past, but then it is straight to the point. Luke shows himself a real man by taking responsibility for his actions in the past and the effect they are still having on Becca in the present.

3.0 out of 5 stars Once her man May 23, 2013
Format:Audible Audio Edition
A short novel with not much content, ONCE HER MAN ALWAYS HER MAN tells of a returned Marine who meets his sweetheart again.

Luke Dexter, a Marine, attends a club in Texas to join an exclusive dating service and meets Rebecca Rainier at the bar. The pair were high-school sweethearts who never went further than kissing but enjoyed spending time together. Luke was from a military family and enlisted in the Marines as soon as he was allowed. He knew he would be sent to Afghanistan and did not want Rebecca to be tied to that situation with the attendant risks, so he made no commitment. She wrote letters regularly which went unanswered.

Now Luke is home and opening a centre for recovering veterans, and Rebecca is running a corporate hospitality firm which is helping to launch the centre. She immediately feels strongly for Luke and he for her, and far from chiding him for failing to keep in touch, she decides on a fling in the back of his car. While Rebecca does come across as a strong and successful woman, I felt she was selling herself short.

I found this skimpy and a longer tale would have allowed us to explore the lives of the two people during those eleven years rather than just having a leap from children to maturity with a skim over their current work.
