Because of this gel core, Always Ultra pads don't need the bulk found in thick pads to help keep you clean and dry. I tried this because sometimes I have a really heavy flow and was tired of having to get up throughout the night a few times to change pads. These take care of that. They are good at keeping the flow contained no matter which direction it goes and it absorbs a lot. The description is accurate and definitely makes for as they say a "happy period".
