5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST live cast albums - Mandy make you hear Patsy
TOP NOTCH VOCALS .... This show way very popular in the early 90's as a touring company. It played all over the US in many different cities staring different actresses and singers. It wasn't until Opryland Entertainment decided to give this show a run at the Ryman Auditorium did they find Mandy Barnett to play Patsy Cline. And did she play PATSY CLINE!! This recording...

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not the "real" Patsy Cline
Beware, this is not the actual Patsy Cline but a recording of the stage show "Always Patsy Cline". Many of the songs are cut short so the on stage actress can cut in and continue her story about the life of Patsy Cline. After listening to this CD once I could not ever imagine listening to it again.

This recording of the show it timeless. You would think that you were listening to Patsy herself. This is a true story about a woman, Louise, who befriended Pasty after becoming infatuated about seeing her live. While at the show they hit it off and the woman helps Patsy, who has traveled to this show by herself. They decide that their lives are a lot alike and want to keep in touch through letters. It is narrorated by Louise and then Patsy's songs are added in when appropriate. It's touching at times and very funny along the way. However the best part of this is the top notch vocals of Mandy Barnett. She sounds so much like Patsy and even has the same vocal inflections in her voice. This is a MUST for all Patsy Cline fans and even for those that enjoy great sounding country music! Mandy's now records her own music and has her own style. Her last album was produced by Patsy Cline producer Owen Bradley. This lady can SING!

I saw Mandy Barnett play Patsy at the Ryman in Nashville and was sure she was lipsyncing. I was truly blown away. She has Patsy down to a "T". Of course anyone who expects the real Patsy will be disappointed because this is just an excellent interpretation of the famous country star. I would recommend this for anyone who saw the play or intends to. It is a wonderful reminder of a real friendship between Loiuse (through her story telling) and one of country musics pioneers.
I also recommend Mandy Barnetts CD's for those who like authentic country. She maintains her own identity without sounding like Patsy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mandy Barnett pays homage to Patsy Cline on this great CD!!, September 21, 1999

Mandy Barnett is Patsy Cline on this wonderful soundtrack to the hit stage show "Always...Patsy Cline". Mandy sounds about 85-95% JUST LIKE Patsy on alot of these songs! I had chills go down my spine as I listened to her sing Patsy's songs and sound so much like her! About all the songs are full length and done the way they were when Patsy sung them. While the storyline in between the songs was interesting, I'm both a Patsy AND Mandy fan and could have done without it and just listened to the songs one after another! Mandy does Patsy justice on this one! Get Mandy's other albums, her latest one is "old country torch" type stuff too! What a voice!!

Well, I don't actually have the CD, but a long time ago my family went to Roanoke, VA and saw this play at a Theatre. It was fabulous. This is a true story about a lady named Louise, who became friends with Patsy Cline at a concert. They kept in touch and wrote each other letters. And I hope that they decide to make a movie version of this musical, it is so much better than the Jessica Lange movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stage show based on real relationship between Patsy & fan, August 23, 1998

After attending a performance of "Always, Patsy Cline", having this CD available brings the experience back again, and again. Based on the true story of a fan, who by chance, came to know Patsy Cline as a person and a real friend, we're able to share in the laughs, and the tears, as well as learn some of the story behind the songs.

This tribute does great justice to the classic Patsy Cline songs. Faded Love and the narration around it makes me cry every time I hear that cut.

For the person who complained that it wasn't made clear that this wasn't Patsy Cline singing... Patsy died in 1963. This CD is clearly advertised as having the original 1995 Nashville Cast. Do the math!

4.0 out of 5 stars An amazing recreation, August 23, 2007
This review is from: Always ... Patsy Cline: Live At The Ryman Auditorium (1995 Original Nashville Cast) (Audio CD)
I never saw the play, but as a long time Patsy Cline fan, I finally picked up this CD. I was familiar with the Louise Seger story from one of Patsy's biographies, and the monologues by Tere Myers are entertaining. But the real star of this CD is Mandy Barnett's amazing recreation of Patsy Cline.

Barnett has all of Patsy's vocal mannerisms down to a tee...her ability to vocally bear down during key parts of a song, the little "hiccups" applied to certain phrases and of course the yodeling and growling. But more importantly, the very sound of Barnett's voice is startingly close to Patsy's - that rounded quality and velvety feel. There are times on this CD when you would swear you were listening to a long-lost live recording of Patsy. One of the most convincing tracks is a lesser known Patsy song, If I Could See The World, which is given a bravura performance by Barnett in the context of singing a lullaby to one of Louise's children while missing her own kids.

The only giveaway is in Barnett's accent and pronunciation on certain words. Barnett's southern accent is somewhat different (and in some ways more pronounced) than Patsy's singing voice came across. These differences betray the illusion on most songs intermittently.

Obviously one is better off starting with the original Patsy Cline recordings, but this is a recommended CD for die-hard Patsy fans.

Mandy Barnett made Patsy cline live again. Her voice has a positively uncanny resemblence to the late legend. Tere Myers as Louise Seger provided a very entertaing and informative narrative, but it was Miss Barnett's soaring vocals which made this a truly memorable event. Why this woman isn't a major country music star is a mystery to me! The only fault I have with this CD is that it makes me sad that it's not available on DVD with video.
