Starting from her birth and early childhood, Whitney Houston's life - the highs and the infamous lows- are chronicled. Some of those who knew her are interviewed. If you are looking for biographical info that isn't just glossy and full of praise, this film provides that info: how she was surrounded by music at church and at home, her famous relatives, being groomed for success by Clive Davis, and more.

So what won't you find? There aren't recordings of her songs here, not even as background music for parts of this documentary. There IS one sad partial performance of Whitney singing a broken rendition of Jesus Loves Me shortly before her death. So if you want to see or hear her incredible voice you'll need to look elsewhere.

There ARE some very early photos of her and the interviews and opinions of some who knew her or wrote about her as music critics or for magazines, online publications, and newspapers. The biographical info seems solid and well-researched.

Some sections did seem overly long. I wasn't particularly interested in watching endless debates about whether Clive Davis should have had his annual pre-Grammy party hours after Houston died, even as she lay upstairs in the same hotel (her body wasn't removed until later).

Mention the debate? Fine. But more of this film could have been focused on other aspects of Houston's life. Other than that, however, and the obvious omission of Houston's performances, this is an informative biographical film.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy or rent this DVD August 13, 2012
Format:Amazon Instant Video
This DVD is a collection of still photographs of Whitney and people around her, there is no music and no footage of any of her award winning performances, it seems as if the people that will profit from the sale of this DVD just put together a lot of pictures, quite a lot of them are of her early days and childhood and of her mother, and then they added a voice over. my 15 year old nephew could have put this together. Shame on the producers of this DVD for such a misleading product.

Just ok. Drop Clive Davis name from this doc. U didn't interview him. The people that were interviewed didn't know Whitney that intimately.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new
There was nothing really new told during this movie that hasn't already been talked about. I would've liked to learn more about her life instead of what others thought of her.

1.0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE!
TERRIBLE! They didn't play a single song. This was only clips from public aired shows which leads me to believe it wasn't sanctioned by her estate and with good reason. Read more

The movie was insightful and fun. No problems viewing it either. The tour guide was interesting, but makes me wonder if he knew what he was talking about or full of it. Read more
