Anecdotes, research, compassion, good writing, but a solution? Hmmm....,
By Galileo (Boston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Alzheimer's Solution: How Today's Care Is Failing Millions- and How We Can Do Better (Paperback)
The writing flows well, and the stories of heartbreak and scientific curiosities (Colombian families with early-onset AD, your neighbor's husband who wanders away) fascinate. Ethical dilemmas are examined carefully and from many viewpoints--how, for instance, can an AD patient remember her end of life wishes, much less follow through on them?
But the solution, a cognitive care center, seems a tad inadequate. Probably the best reason to read this book is to understand why the medical community cannot help the Alzheimer patient--because there is no pill, no surgery to cure him and no time to help him cope. I'll enjoy reading a follow-up to this after Dr. Kosik has collected some data from the cognitive care center clients.

This book is for those who already have a grasp of the disease of Alzheimer's I don't believe the novice would understand a lot of the information.
