5.0 out of 5 stars Activities for both daily and special occasions
Family and professional caregivers of Alzheimer's patients now have a unique and very book which can identify appropriate activities for various levels of Alzheimer patients. Almost 300 pages outlines the activities for both daily and special occasion celebrations, with tips on how to ask the patient for input, resource lists, caregivers' anecdotes, and more. Invaluable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so great
This book is a thumb-nail reference for ideas to enrich the lives of those with Alzheimer's or other senile dementing disorders. However, as a professional therapist, I find the ideas rather involved. I believe these ideas are more appropriate for primary caregivers and family. As someone who visits ALFs, I'd have to have a HUGE bag of tricks to accomplish most of these...

In reviewing this book, I discovered it is an excellent resource not only for professional care providers, but for family members as well. There are very detailed examples of specific activities to do on a daily basis, and could be easily adapted for varying levels of dementia.

As someone who visits ALFs, I'd have to have a HUGE bag of tricks to accomplish most of these activities (and each tailored to the individuals' pasts).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for the nursing home!, December 29, 2010

Mom has ALzheimer's and lived with us for just over 3 years till she broke her hip and needed more care than I could give. She's in a nice nursing home where they treat all the AD patients with dignity and love. I no longer need the activities suggestions as she gets too agitated and confused when we leave the nursing home, but this was purchased as a Christmas gift for the staff of the AD ward who take such great care of mom and the others. I think it will give them some great ideas for the group. Well written and informative.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better for 1:1 interaction than groups, April 15, 2010

This gives a lot of ideas for 1:1 interaction for at home or long term situations. It is not as helpful for groups or an acute care setting.

Was very dissapointed when I received a discarded 10 yr old library book which was probably free to the seller or one of those 25 cent buys at a library rummage sale. Seller probably made 10-20 times what they paid for it. It's so old that the information is usless.
