Book Description

September 1, 2006
Readers just can't get enough tales of government gaffes, and no one spotlights stupidity like best-selling humorist Leland Gregory. President George W. Bush and his administration can't seem to stop goofing up, and Gregory can't help writing about it.

Am-Bushed! is a hilarious rundown of the mishaps, mistakes, mispronunciations, malapropisms, and misunderestimations committed by Dubya and his administration, including:

* "You took an oath to defend our flag and our freedom, and you kept that oath underseas and under fire." --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., January 10, 2006

* "There's a-some of the greatest programs, initiatives come out of our faith-based programs or faith-based churches or synagogues or mosques." --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., January 30, 2003

* "The will of the United States can be shaken by suiciders . . . And suiciders who are willing to drive up to a Red Cross center, a center of international help and aid and comfort, and just kill . . . the strategy remains the same. The tactics to respond to more suiciders driving cars will alter on the ground." --George W. Bush, White House, October 28, 2003

5.0 out of 5 stars A PURE SCREAM!, November 12, 2006
This review is from: Am-Bushed!: More Chronicles of Government Stupidity (Hardcover)
I know that a lot of people are looking forward to Bush leaving office but not everyone. For the world's comedians and humorists, it will be a dark day because so much of their fodder will be going away. If nothing else, George Bush has proven to be one of the greatest sources of political humor since Gerald Ford was in office. Look, I don't agree with many Bush bashers who consider him unintelligent. I think Bush is a pretty smart guy but I just don't think he expresses himself very well. He is a good ol' boy at heart and unfortunately for him, that often comes through when he speaks. To Bush's credit, he certainly knows his limitations. In fact one of the quotes in this book find Bush admitting that he's not exactly a great linguist.

You can tell by just seeing the cover with those rolling plastic eyes that this is going to be a screamer and it doesn't disappoint. "Am-Bushed" is humorist Leland Gregory's collections of Bush's language oddities garnered throughout his Presidential terms. Sometimes you have to read the quotes two or three times to even understand them and then you're stunned that any person, much less our president could stumble so much in the realm of public speaking. Such is his charm.

Some of my favorite quotes: "Most people in Arkansas know where Texas is and all the people in Texas know where Arkansas is." Speaking in front of a group of Arkansas school children and basically insulting the state of Arkansas.

Here's a classic, "Nobody can threaten this country. Oh, they may be able to bomb a building..." Wow!

And then there is this one: "August was a month of accomplishment here in Washington." Said on August 2, 2002!

Besides the quotes there's also a Bush dictionary containing dozens of misused or completely made up words. Pure genius! Great little book!

!Ambushed...'

As the title states, I feel that this was a clever, intelligent treatment of a specified subject. The suthor obviosly has a certain opinion, and states it clearly & intelligently.
