Great album, by the Greatest Band you've never heard of.,
This review is from: Am Conspiracy (Audio CD)
_____ Album Breakdown, Comparisons, Thoughts, and a little History too _____First, the other reviewer went into this album clearly NOT knowing why Jones left Drowning Pool. He left because he didn't want his music to be confined (or defined) by Drowning Pool's pre-existing style/sound parameters... it just wasn't for him, and they wouldn't budge/compromise, so he left. I myself like Drowning Pool (and have been a fan of theirs since their "local scene" days here in Dallas!); but I also like/love bands like Mudvayne as well (Mudvayne is in fact one of my fav. bands)... if you do NOT like the more aggressive style/genres of "hard rock"; and tend to favor the "pop-ier" style/genres of rock... then this band probably isn't for you. AM Conspiracy's self-titled, full-length debut album, is a really great album. __ (They released an EP in 2007) __ Sure, there is definitely room for improvement musically... but for a debut album, it's very solid. __ (musically, think of Disturbed's debut, compared to how much they've improved their style since) __ I don't say that to belittle AM's album... most great bands improve & hone their skills/sound over time; and I look forward to what the future will bring w/ AM in that respect... but musically it's still very good... definitely IS "polished" (see other reviewer)... Produced well (aka, "polished")... and deserves a lot more attention than what it got (thanks to the lame indie-label they've since parted ways with, for that exact reason). Anyway... Aggressive, Hard, etc... if you like Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, Stone Sour (pre-Audio-Secrecy), Slipknot (last 2 lps), Soil (scars/redefine) and similar bands... I bet you'll really like this Band/Album as well. (those may not be the best comparisons; but they're the most well-known band-comparisons I can think of at the moment). If you tend to like the more pop-ier, melodic, "radio-friendly", style of rock, such as Drowning Pool, Bush, Linkin Park, etc.... and do NOT like Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, etc, then you shouldn't be giving this band/album a negative review, simply because it's a genre that you don't like anything or anyone in. It's like a die-hard heavy metal fan (negatively) reviewing a R&B artist/album, solely because their taste is Metal & not R&B. (but whatever, it's a free world, and if you wanna waste your time & bad-mouth people because their genre isn't the same as your favorite genre, that's your business I suppose). I felt that should be said, to avoid further confusion as to what this band's style/genre is... for any who didn't already know... and to hopefully avoid further, unwarranted, bad reviews, based solely on "wanted another drowning pool album", especially considering that's precisely why he left D.P. ---That said, on to the actual album being reviewed: (LOL, Finally!) Again, the entire album is very solid (something not often seen w/ most artists/albums). I loved Jones' vocal talents displayed in D.P.'s Desensitized; and while this album showcases a more aggressive sound/style, those same talents (lyrical & vocal) are very prevalent here as well. In fact, I can see why AM was so discouraged & p.o.'d about the complete lack of publicity/marketing done by their label, because simply put, if it got the attention it deserved, this would've been a wildly successful album. Critically, it was very well received... Publicly, no one knows it/they exist... and that's just sad. (heck, I didn't even know of the album until a few months ago!, and discovering it was sheer happenstance) While there are several "stand-out" tracks, there aren't any that I would consider skipping -- as I will enjoy listening to all, again and again. Tracks like "Pictures", "Away", "Down", and sevral others, will be most people's favorites; but it's kinda hard for me to pick favorites from an album with so many great songs, and with such a musical & vocal variety to choose from (not all are [more] "aggressive" than D.P.: "Away" & "Down" are actually more Desensitized-esque tracks for example... possibly written that way &/or included to win-over or satisfy fans of Desensitized, while bringing them "into the fold" of the AM style... and songs like "Right On Time" & "Far" brings to mind some of Ryan McCombs'/Soil songs (who took over singing for D.P. after Jones left, rather ironic when you think about it)... which, makes me understand the other review/complainer even less; but, again, whatever.) In other words, if you come to AM Conspiracy with an open mind... whether a fan of Dorwning Pool &/or the album Desensitized or not... you should be very pleasantly surprised, and perhaps find yourself a new addition to your favorite bands list(s). [I only stated about 1/2 the songs because you should listen for yourself & draw your own conclusions / comparisons, etc.] I read in a recent interview that they (AM) are already recording new songs for their sophomore album (yet to be titled). I for one am definitely looking forward to see what's next for AM Conspiracy.... hopefully this next time around, they'll get the exposure they deserve. Long story short... an exceptional hard-rock album, by the best band you've never heard of. PS: I prefer the cover-art of their ("Out of the Shallow End") 2007 EP over the 2010 LP... hopefully they'll get a better art concept for their next release.

Very disappointed with this release. I was expected something similar to Drowning Pool release with "Bones" Jones. The lyrics are just OK and the melodies not much better. Not near as polished as I thought it would sound. All in all, very disappointed. Would rate 4/10 at best.
