5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Artistry from Ballet's Brightest Lights, December 16, 2000
By
This review is from: I Am a Dancer [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Combining scenes of ballet barre work with segments of four ballets, this video is different from the usual performance video. Particular barre exercises (specifically rond de jambe en l'air and developpe) are demonstrated, then exploited in the ballets so the viewer can see how what the dancer does in class translates into the actual performance. Dressing room scenes show the concentration required of the dancer off stage as well as on. FIELD FIGURES, a modern work by choreographer Glen Tetley, includes Tetley working with the dancers in the rehearsal hall, revealing the relationship between choreographers and dancers. In addition to amazing performances by Rudolf Nureyev, Carla Fracci, Margot Fonteyn, and Deanne Bergsma, this video gives a more complete picture of a dancer's dedication.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best ballet video, December 5, 2005
This review is from: I Am a Dancer [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As a professional dancer this was the first video i got when i was at the National school of Dance in Mexico passed down from fellow students, i had to copy it from beta to beta, then beta to vhs, and now from vhs to dvd..altough my videotape is very overused this is by far my favorite yet. Altough i own a huge ballet video collection, none can match this, from his astonishing beats in La Sylphide, and the great partnership with Carla Fracci, to the modern aproach of Field figures, and the SUPREME pas de deux from Sleeping Beauty, with Seymoure, every time i'm going to dance sleeping beauty, i watch it over and over again...& i find new cues, new details, new accents. If you can get this, you wont regret.
Just a curious note: Nureyev didn't like the outcome of this video and he wanted to destroy all the copies, but when it was at the cinemas the audience love it.

This video portrays a really great side of Nureyev. It shows some wonderful parts of different ballets that he performed in. It gives a lot of detail on the wonderful partnership between Fonteyn and Nureyev. This shows some amazing jumps. It's definatly worth your money. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Yes He Is And Then Some!", December 2, 2009

This review is from: I Am a Dancer [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I first saw this 'movie' years ago when Nureyev was in his prime. The film begins with some serious footage of him working at the barre, giving the balletomanes enough time to really appreciate his technic and work ethic.
I was not disappointed by my memory of his performance of Field Figures danced with Deanne Bergsma; even if one does not care for the music, just watching the way in which they formed the figures was amazing. The movie was for me perfect. Watching Nureyev again reminded me of his sense of drama as well as what he contributed to ballet. I was honored to see him dance and will treasure the film so I can remind myself of the magic he brought to the stage.
