5.0 out of 5 stars great artwork
This is a large boardbook that is perfect for teaching children about nature and how monkeys live. The pictures are beautiful and my nine month old loves turning the pages. The story is easy to follow and the vocabulary is simple. There is no violence, and the story teaches about respecting one's elders. I highly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars These are chimps, not monkeys!
It'd be a great book if the author (or illustrator) didn't depict chimpanzees with tails, conflating chimps and monkeys. Lame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing illustrations and very educational!, November 21, 2011
I came across this book at a childrens boutique in my town, and paid quite a bit more for it then what amazon is charging, however i would have paid that price again. We LOVE this book, and it is VERY durable. The pages are a thick cardboard, so it will hold up from birth. One thing I love about these books is that there is one for many animals. We went through a huger monkey stage, and now were into elephants, so I just bought "I am a little elephant" for my son for christmas. Cant wait to get it! EXCELLENT Book!!

I have 2 of these books so far (Monkey & Giraffe) & love them. The illustrations capture my little one's attention & they are wonderfully done. I've bought them for gifts & hope to purchase more of the series soon.

I needed a cute, informational book on monkeys for my preschool aged children and this fit the bill perfectly. The illustrations are super cute, the baby monkey is adorable, and there is just the right amount of information on each page. I love that it is a board book so my little ones can carry it around all they want. This will supplement our collection of Curious George books perfectly for the Monkey Unit we are doing!

I highly recommend all these books. Beautiful, realistic illustrations and simple, educational wording. Sturdy and unique size/shape. So far, I have bought four in this series for my granddaughter, just turned two. She has been enjoying them since just a few months old. Eventually I'll buy them all; she will love them for many years. I Am a Little Giraffe: Large (Barron's Little Animals Series)I Am a Little Tiger: Large (Barron's Little Animal Series)

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Detailed Pictures and Well-written text, January 5, 2008
This review is from: I Am a Little Monkey (Barron's Little Animal Series) (Hardcover)
I think that this book is engaging and educational. It is not intended for very young children (under 3 or 4), as there are several sentences on each page and the text requires some understanding of the animal world. I plan to check out other books in this series from our local library.

This book offers a fairly realistic, 'non-Disney' view of chimps. (Of course, it is not that realitic, as the baby chimp is the narrator of the story!) That being said, there is nothing scary about it. There is a picture of a jaguar and the baby looks fearful, but it is clear that the baby is safe.

The pictures are great -- very detailed and life-like. My only (very small) quibble with the pictures is that it is not always 100 % clear who the various chimps are in relation to the story. Not surprisingly, chimps all kind of look alike.
