5.0 out of 5 stars A Rare Treasure, June 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Am I Same Girl (Audio CD)
This compilation includes many of Dusty Springfield's best loved songs such as "Son of a Preacher Man", "I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten" and " Breakfast in Bed" to name a few. Equally appealing are her reinterpretations of classics like "Take Another Little Piece of My Heart", "This Girl's in Love with You" and "Don't Let Me Lose This Dream".
Dusty's versions of these songs rival, at the very least, the recordings by the original artists. The crowning jewel of the collection is a relativly obscure but irresistable rocker called "Haunted" which is given the full Dusty Springfield treatment. Sensational Album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprise: excellent collection, October 20, 2004

This review is from: Am I Same Girl (Audio CD)
There are so many Dusty Springfield compilations out there that it's difficult to pick out just one as a summation of her career and artistry, but this budget-line collection is surprisingly enjoyable and at 18 tracks, is quite generous.

The collection features big hits ("Stay Awhile", "Son of A Preacher Man") with lesser known songs like "Spooky" and her cover of "Take a Little Piece of My Heart" which is actually quite good. The album also includes some of Dusty's best songs in my opinion, including her sensitive reading of "This Girl's In Love With You" and the enduring classic, "Breakfast In Bed". In fact, there are a number of tracks from 'Dusty in Memphis' although Dusty's biggest hits, "The Look of Love", "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" and "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" are not here. The sequencing is fine, ending with the title track, which was covered by Swing Out Sister in the '90s, although Dusty's version still sounds fresh.

This is definitely worth buying if you can find it a low price, but then mostly anything of Dusty's is worth buying, whatever the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Must For Any Dusty Fan!, June 13, 2000

A few years ago a friend house sat my Hollywood bungalow. He pushed Play on the CD player and this absolute gem came on. My friend turned the volume up (nearly killing the neighbor poodle) and listened to Dusty wail to these songs for the weekend. This is glorious Dusty---singing the best pop of the 60's, including Bachrach-David, Aretha Franklin and more. The perfect pool party CD. Buy it now!
