It is difficult to find perfection in a collection of any type of music, and Native American is no exception. However, to pick and place all excellent songs on one CD is truly hard to believe!

Contrary to the opinion of some of the other reviewers on this page, `I Am Walking' is NOT the best place to start if you're interested in exploring contemporary Native American music. Yet, this feat has been done with this CD. I have been selective in buying collections of Native American music, but this purchase was an excellent find? Close to gold in richness, and close to heaven in score, this CD is a fine work of art.

Don't miss it!

This music speaks to the soul.

A remarkable compilation of performances, this is a great introduction to music that is healing and joyful. "Lost Bird" is hauntingly beautiful, "Sacred Spirit" is a wonderful dream, and "Wash Your Spirit Clean" is bright and exuberant.

If you are just venturing into the realm of Native American music, this is a terrific place to start.

Drift away from those 21st century blues and be at one with the Earth, with the Sky, with your soul.... the sounds and vibrations of this wonderful CD will take you away and bring you home, a true communion of spirit. Double treat yourself, also buy "Sacred Spirits: chants and Dances of the Native Americans".

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous introduction to the feast of Native American music, September 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: I Am Walking: New Native Music (Audio CD)
"I am Walking" transports listeners and gives them passage to another world. The pieces draw the audience in to a realm where absurdities are left behind and exploration of life or self or people is the thing. Each cut tells a tale needing to be heard by the listener regardless of whether the words are understood or not. "I am Walking" is a must-give/get for everyone who values life. It is simply beautiful, enchanting and not to be too extreme, transformational music. Alas, the world doesn't allow the transformation to last long. Buy it. Give it. Cherish it. You will.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic, June 4, 2000
This review is from: I Am Walking: New Native Music (Audio CD)
Being one who buys music blindly, I couldn't pass this one up knowing that such greats as Andrew Vasquez, Gary Stroutsos, Joanne Shenandoah, etc. were on this masterpiece. I recommend this highly to anyone who would like to experience a variety of music.

Contrary to the opinion of some of the other reviewers on this page, `I Am Walking' is NOT the best place to start if you're interested in exploring contemporary Native American music. There are several other collections with much better selections of songs and artists that I believe are much more representative of Native American music today. This collection seems geared to fit into some kind of easy-listening market niche and it is markedly non-threatening to say the least. With the exception of a few nice tracks, especially a flute piece by Joseph Fire Crow, `I Am Walking' is hardly worth the money.
